I thought the 440 was just a newer number used for pretty much the same rangefinder as the 400. I don't think there is much difference if any. Go for the higher number. Higher is almost always better
I've got a pair of the 440's and love them compared to my big ole tank Bushnell 400's. Great 8 power optics and half yard increments. Even dropped them out of the tree stand first time I used them this year from 20 ft up. Climbed down picked them up checked them they were fine. Got back up in my tree and shot a buck 40 minutes later after ranging him.
I had just ordered a Refurbished 400 but it did not work and I had to send it back, everyone I know that has one likes it except one friend who rathers his bushnell. He claims it works better in low light,

bigger is supposed to be better!!!! checked all the details on both , only difference I can see is colour and number
