You don't gain any speed from an overdraw alone. The speed comes from the abuility to shoot a shorter lighter arrow.
The draw back is that any bow torque is magnified by the greater length of the overdraw.
The fact that lighter arrows made of carbon or composite materials are now available have made big ole overdraws obsolete.
