For those of you who hunt in the Great State Of Pennsylvania we have 61 days until the opening day of the 2006 archery season. Hope this year will be plentiful for all that venture out into the Great Outdoors.

September 30th can't get here soon enough!!!!!!!

I am thrilled with the antler restrictions here in Pa. I shot a 144 ' 10 point last year and that was unheard of only 5 or 6 years ago in my area. The only problem in my area is that I think they went to far with the doe kill. We are lacking total deer numbers badly. I think they need to cut back on the seasons and time that does can be taken. At least in my area. On a different note its hard to get excited about the archery season here today because its like 102 degrees!!!!!!!

Judging from your responce about antler restrictions (repeatedly) and what not I am going to have to assume you're a member of huntingPA.com, correct?
Nope never been to that page, should I?

I form my opions based soley off the area that I hunt. If this isn't being witnessed elsewhere in the state then thats great.
I will be coming over to Bradford County......
Phatbowman I must be spooking the big ones to you. I haven't seen squat in PA. Numbers are way down( thats my word and I'm sticking to it.)
hahaha that bow you had

was scaring them all away, you will see the light this year i promise, lots of big bucks out there in punxsy this year, and besides i wana see what that tribute will do to one so il put you on one dont worry.
Seeing lots of deer in south central. If you are patient enough watching the fields at night, you can spot some big ones running around :)

I think Gary Alt was just tired of all the criticism he was getting from all angles. He was getting it from the public, sportsmens groups, heck I even think people inside the PGC were on him about the restrictions when he instituted them.
Agree in part

Viper,

I agree in part with you on this. I too think that the doe seasons need to be cut back. One week of anything goes muzzloaders in PA....during the 3rd week of archery season? I think that's a little much. From what I've seen, enough does get killed during the 2 week rifle deer season.

The real tragedy of this is that most of the does that are being killed are being taken on state game lands. With all of the posted property, that's where hunters are being forced to go. After a few years, I believe the deer will remigrate and even out the overall population, but it will take time. If I remember right, the PGC warned the public that this would not be a quick fix.

And on the same note as your different note, this weather sucks. Can't wait for the first frost!!
Down to 50 days before Christmas, I mean archery season here Pennsylvania. Sure feels like a kid at Christmas though.
50 more days. Good I still have time to play around with different bheads and releases. Can not wait for the end of SEPTEMBER.
I live there

Hey guys. I dont mean to hijack this thread but I have a question for you. I am going to hunting Susquehanna County in October. Do any of you know anything about the area?

What do u want to know? I live here and hunt here every year. WMU 3C
I am going to put out my camera's tomorrow morning, and look for some new places to hunt out of my climber. I have been hunting this land for the past two years, and I have finally come to this conclusion. The deer do not bed down on this property, because of the 6 food plots we have, they use this land for their feeding grounds. I am going to go find some travelways.
Can`t wait

Antler restrict5ions are great on public land.

prm is great

I was born and raised in wc pa and all I ever saw was tiny bucks. Now with the point restiction the deer are of better quality!! I now live in the Black Hills of South Dakota and they have had the prm in practice for several years . Prior to it the deer reminded me of PA. Give it time and it will be the best thing game commission has done for the deer managment in PA. Good luck to all you guys and shoot straight.

Actually I still have the small antlers but we lost the overcrowding... And the deer aren't getting bigger, but their available habitat has certaintly gotten smaller! damn transplants.
And why aren't the deer getting bigger? Are they getting older? And if they are older but remaining small, then you have a nutrition/habitat issue, which cannot be addressed by antler restrictions.
44 days by the way guys.....
anyone hunt 4c?
