BRONX (WABC) -- Some 24 hours after being hit in the stomach by an arrow, Denise Delgado Brown is reliving the frightening, bizarre incident from her hospital bed.
"I thought that maybe somebody had hit me with a baseball," she said. "It just happened so quickly. I just couldn't believe it." The 51-year-old was wounded on Sunday as she stepped out of her car in Riverdale while dropping a friend off after church.
She was rushed to St. BarnabusHhospital where she underwent two hours of surgery.
Police combed the scene for clues, trying to figure out where the arrow originated. "The arrow itself, I am told, is called a Black Hawk 4000 and it can travel up to 1000 yards, so that's the area we are looking at," Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said.
Police also describe the arrow as carbon with a blunt tip commonly used for target practice, not hunting. The archery expert at Frank's Sports in the Bronx stresses it can still be dangerous.
"Carbon arrows are a little bit more expensive than aluminum. They travel faster, but anything can be deadly," Eric Mounier said.
Even as police continue to patrol the neighborhood where Delgado was attacked hoping for new leads in the case, residents who live here insist they are not living in fear.
"I'm not paranoid. I think this was a random attack. I don't think there's any reason to be worried," Beth Schafer said.
The shooter could face reckless endangerment charges if it's determined that the arrow was shot from an area where target practice is not permitted

yeah, i think any arrow can fly 1000 yards; but i would be on the lookout for the owner of the bow that shoots the 1000 yard arrow

I doubt the arrow would travel 1000 yds go to the international flight records and 400 yds is about max for most other than the foot bows... with a blunt tip it would slow down pretty fast need to check a 3 block radius at most of impact.... and if shot in stomach that means a flat trajectory path so even a 200 yd radius of church ....sure doesn`t give archers a good wrap here...

Well, we don't know what they mean by "blunt." Blunt could be anything from an actually bunny blunt to a mischaracterization of a target point as "blunt" compared to a broadhead.
