I just noticed this on the IBO's rules on there website. Watch out you my be pulled aside by big Ken to do a pee test at your next IBO shoot :ROFLMAO:

IBO rule
g. Using performance enhancing drugs - Recognizing the IBO / 3-DI affiliation with FITA; the IBO is developing a substance abuse policy. We may be recognizing guidelines along the same structure as those utilized by FITA in their International competitions. Be advised, these guidelines may be implemented in the near future and may come into use with no further warning than this advisory.

Is this a joke? Or does FITA really do this and how does it work?

Beta Blockers aren't just used for hypertension. I have severe heart problems including episodes of uncontrolled fibrillation and my cardiologist has me on Sotocor (Sotolol) which is a beta blocker but also controls the fibrillation.

It also slows your heart down and makes you feel very lacking in energy. I've asked him if I could come off them but he won't hear of it. They aren't fun to be on and I don't find that they help my archery at all - quite the contrary in fact.

Nothing is ever as simple as it may first appear.
Is beer a performance enhancing drug??:darkbeer: :darkbeer:

OBT is alwasy talking about the snacky cakes?? Is that Southern talk for performance enhancing brownies?? :embara:
As we say in the Army, that 'pee test' is one you don't want to pass!

But I am sure, that someone with a super competive urge might use them.... what ever happen to 'all natural'

I heard that rumor.
beta blockers

I don't know what beta blockers are but I personally take a nerve pill before a big event just to help calm my nerves, is that wrong.

true, but in a lower dose they beta blockers will slow your heart rate, which can be a benefit

This is very real and drug testing is quite common in FITA. We rocked up to training a few months ago and there was a drug tester there waiting for my wife. She had to give a random test that night. Made em wait for 5 hours too (2 hours before she arrived and 3 once we did)
At our big competitions the medal winners are usually tested. Alcohol in your system and you are in trouble.

IMHO this is a good thing for IBO to do. You shouldn't be drinking before picking up a bow anyway.

if your not goping on any international teams I wouldn't worry to much as it is expensive to test and testing someone not going anyplace is pointless. I remember Fiona got tested and wasn,t even a member of any archery organisation, i then asked if she was positive what could they do ban her from and organisation she isn't a member of. Now they only test our archers that are on our excellence programe for travel teams and even those are very few
You can tell from my question I am not a "user"...and not looking to be one or justify it's use but...

I had heard marijuana might calm your nerves or in excess... might put you into a "drunken stupor" but also caused problems with your depth perception.

So now you have calm nerves but can't judge distance...wouldn't that defeat it's purpose?

"PREGO"...It's in There!!!

What??......no response from this group......whatsamatter??......I won't tell anyone that you might know the answer....heheheeeee

O.K. ...Here....you can say....A friend said they knew someone who had a next door neighbor that smoked marijuana and shot their bow and.......____________________________....you fill in the blank.

i have never really been nervous on a 3d course so i dont know how i could help there at all but with a nfaa format shoot i could see how it could come in handy to calm down the jitters

I know and have personally seen many many people take and use pain killers and other drugs like this to calm the nerves during a 3D shoot or other fairly large sanctioned shoot. Not that its a performance enhancer, but I can't imagine the number of shooters at the pro/elite level that have some THC in their bloodstream as well...........there are more than you think :zip: .
no doubt there will be more THC dqs then there will be any other drug.....agreed 100% with that statment.....its there and if you dont think so....remember what you used tell your parents you did when you got home late at night.....
What? No Alcohol? No serious matter should ever be attempted without first properly preparing by consuming a few pints.

Maybe they should be adding a MINIMUM BAL requirement :darkbeer:
