I have a quick question. I've seen people post photos and was under the impression that some of them are taken using a spotting scope. If you're scoping a bunch of deer in a field can you use the scope to photo them with your 'regular' digital camera by just putting the lens of your camera in the eyepiece of your scope?

Thanks

Yes you can. Make sure to zoom all the way in with your optical zoom before you take the picture and be patient. Without a digiscoping adapter you will probably get 1 good picture for every 10 you take.

I would say that is accurate. I tried it finally and this is the one of the better ones I have taken...

I've done this quite a bit. It is fun but you don't get the best pictures with my method. I just hold up my old Olymous D-370 up to the eye piece and line things up in the LCD the best I can. I know there are attachments to the better spotting scopes and cameras that work better, but this is a good poor mans method. Here are a couple of pics I took last year, one from about 200 yds. and another from about 700 yds.

Spotting scope camera adapters

Do a google search for "spotting scope camera adapters". There is an adapter made for most cameras. However, I can't seem to find one for mind. I have a Panasonic DMC-LZ2PP which is the same as a DMC-LZ1PP according to the owners manual. Any help on finding the correct adapter to a Leupold Sequoia spotting scope would be appreciated. Send me a PM.

After reading this I took my Leica spotting scope out to watch the fields and brought my digital camera and tried a few pictures. I think with a little practice I may get some good pictures. This buck was just over 450 yards away for this picture.

I have been doing this some lately as well. It works ok, but I really want to get a digiscoping set up sometime soon. It is very addicting! Here are a few pictures I took through my Pentax PF-80ED with my wife's POS 2.1 MP HP camera.

You can tell that they aren't great pictures, but if they are close enough you can get some pretty good ones. The Doe and the smaller goat were within 300 yards, but the other two photos were a long ways off.
