I shoot recurve, I prefer a ring or hoop versus a pin. I find myself spending
too much time aiming when I use a pin, as opposed to executing the shot.

For compound however, I suspect there are quite a few people who use pin. Not sure of the percentages however.

I used to use a pin (really a sewing needle, which I dipped in a drop of flourescent paint). Bending, or just focusing in different lighting conditions became too hard.

Now that Im older and my eyes are messed from too much time in front of a computer, I can barely see the gold. I use a larger aperture (hoop/ring) now. I juse try to let it float somewhere in the middle of the target. I think its a beiter replacable insert one. But I have also used lugnuts or washer JBwelded to a bolt, or what ever else I had available depending on the size of target I was shooting. (Silver is easier for me to see against an nfaa target indoors on a range with poor lighting, black is easier to see against naa in a bright range or a range with a wall of ethafoam)
