First picture is most likely maple....maybe poplar but I'm leaning more towards maple

2nd picture oak. Looks to just to be cut on a bias to be what they call quarter sawn oak

First pic…I’m sure I could duplicate the look with a piece of maple at the lumber yard.

The second pictures are not clear enough, but the top piece appears to be ring porous…and guesses would be in that direction, if true.

Pictures can be misleading though (lighting is a variable, for one)...it’s just not the same as the hands on approach. And that said, I’d favor asking woodworkers that are local to where the wood was obtained…but you still may not find agreement…kinda depends on their specialty/experience with the species. Thank you. They do look like maple and oak. I was kinda hoping the first one would be hickory though, for backing. But I guess ill use silk after all. And the second peace looks like red oak, except its white. Should have thought about comparing them earlier.
