Well, I've not tied in a lot of D-Loops, but when tieing in the dozen or so that I have, I never pre-cut the cord. Tie in 1 knot and pull it reasonably tight, tie in the other, then cut and mushroom the end.

So does that quality me for some samples?

I like having plenty of material seeing as how I tend to screw up sometimes....Luckily I have Lucky around and he gets my screw ups!! So I would think 7-8 inches would be a perfect number!!

Couldn't take your poll...........I only use 4.5" before melting the ends. Makes a perfect D-loop.

I melt one end into a ball then measure 4 1/2'' and melt that end. Been doing it this way for a few years now - It's the perfect loop length for me.

I always use 6.5 to start and I can always cut some off if needed

I start with 4.5" and burn the ends... perfect d loop.

I cut it to 4.25" and the melt the ends and flatten them on the side of the lighter.

I can't imagine 6"- you'd have a loop WAY too long.
