So, I've never liked hunting in winds over 20mph. It seems the deer don't really move because they lose one of their main senses, hearing. Also, I don't want to get blown out of the tree or be blasted in the face with artic cold wind for hours. I thought deer really didn't move much after winds of around 20mph but I'm not sure.

Went out this morning and it was windy and snowy. Approximately 10-15mph. I didn't expect to see much until the wind died down. I ended up seeing 6 does, 2 groups of 3 pass by within 10 minutes of each other before the winds died down. It was pretty cool. All within bow range of appr. 10 yards.

So, what have been the best winds to hunt for you?

When will you not hunt because it's too windy?

I am sane enough to get out of a treestand when it is rocking like the mast of a sailing ship.....and branches from above are dropping. While I have personally not had good fortune on very windy days, I know a few people who have. Since I try to shoot in the conditions I hunt, I have shot in winds of 20+ and do not like what it does to my arrow impact. I work too hard on my shooting form and tuning to watch it go out the window due to high winds. If I can't tuck in on the ground where the wind is knocked down a bit, I stay home.

Was 25' up in a tree at noon the other day with gusts of 35 mph. I hoped that by close to sunset the wind would die down. Instead at around 3:30, the gusts got extremely strong. Don't know the wind speed but it was time to go. I realized on the way out that it was the first time I ever walked out of this place in day light.

Yesterday in PA it was steady 15-20 mph winds and gusts over 30. It was also snowing at times and blowing the snow sideways. I saw 6 different bucks moving and quite a few does. I will hunt a strong wind during the rut especially. Early season I am less likely to sit in the wind but that’s just me.

I think it depends on where you are hunting and what the deer are accustom to, here in MS 20 mph winds don't happen that often, I have hunted in SD and 20 mph winds seem to be the norm. Deer live outside and have to get on with the business of being deer, rain or shine, high wind or calm, I do, however, believe that weather outside the norm can and does affect deer movement and in really bad weather you are far less likely to see deer, but I usually still go, because you never know.

Your poll sucks.
I can only pick one option, and it's limited to a 5 MPH variation.

Deer will move well in up to close to 40 MPH winds.
But with winds less than 5 MPH, it's virtually impossible to get one close enough to your stand that you can shoot it before it smells you.
