Powergrip Serving material size

Hello all

I have been searching through the forum to try and figure out what size of BCY Powergrip I would need to replace my center serving. From what I have found, most people are using 0.018

This is a bow I just picked up used. It has custom strings on it, but I don't know what material. I measured the string with a caliper and it is 0.09". The nocks I use like a finished serving right about 0.12". So if I do the math, 2 x 0.018 + 0.09 would give me a finish of 0.126", too big.

If I use 0.014" powergrip I would then get 2 x 0.014 + 0.09 = 0.118" (much better)

Is there something I'm not getting about this? Everyone seems to be using 0.018". I'd like to avoid ordering a spool the wrong size and then being stuck with it

.120 is a very large finished diameter for a center serving. .110 is usually a good number to shoot for and one you would end up being very close to with .018.

I keep fairly detailed records on bundle size and the finished diameter of servings with various serving materials.

A 0.09 string bundle (typical for 24strands of 452X) will finish around .111 with .018 Powergrip with the tag end removed, and about .114 if you leave the Powergrip tag under the serving.

Forget about doing the "math" on finished diameters, I don't know exactly how they measure servings, but the advertised diameter is not at all representative of how much diameter it adds to the bundle. For example BCY 2X, which is .015 will finish about .010 SMALLER than Halo .014. The material the serving is made from, as will as it's construction (type twist vs braid) greatly affects how much it "flattens" out when applied.

Oh and yeah, .12 has to be a mis-measurement or a typo. .115 is huge for finished diameter on center serving on a compound bow. Normally you want to be between .109 and .112.

Thanks!

I thought there must be something wrong with the way I was figuring it. I must have also made a mistake when jotting down the measurements. I'll double check to be sure

Sound like 0.018 is what I want though
