I was watching video clips on Youtube last night about index releases that covered this topic. Lots of good info out there that you may want to review before you purchase.

 

For the perfex thumb release, I think the long neck has the spring loaded keeper for hanging the release from the d loop while the short neck doesn’t. Something to think about if you are going to hunt with it.

 

other than the spring loader on the hook, is there a performance advantage/disadvantage or is it based on the shooter?

 

Another thing to consider when choosing: depending on what you're currently using, the long neck version may actually be shorter. There's a sizing guide on their website if that helps.

 

You are correct. Printed their cutout template and the long neck actually has very slightly shorter neck than the Truball GOAT.

 

Not sure. I haven’t tried the short neck. As far as I know, short and long neck change your hand placement so it is a personal thing. Hopefully others can help you more.

 

I have shot both the long and short neck version. There is not a performance advantage of one over the other in my experience.

The Stan PerfeX Long neck is only long to the PerfeX.

Below, there is no long neck version What shows long is just the way they are made. The Tru-Fire Sear (standard length) is right at .400" longer than the Stan Shootoff in the foreground......

The stan long neck really isn't long, a few years ago they came out with the short ones and they suck. They were a fad where you can try and get some more draw length by haveing a super short neck on your release. The long neck ones are basically the normal length for a release and by far the better option.

Yes, there will be a very few people who fit into a short neck stan release but for the majority of us a long neck is the way to go.

 

I would suspect the short neck will be marginally faster.

While the long may be less susceptible to misalignment, my data is limited but I felt a longer release stayed in line better.

For me, I want the long neck so that it more closely matches my Stan Black Jack. It's close, but not exactly the same. The short neck one creates a completely different anchor and does not match well in size with other releases. I sold my short neck. Very well-built, but made it hard to switch between releases.

 

I’m looking for a ‘trio’ of releases (hinge, trigger, & resistance) almost all the same. Does the black jack cause any different anchoring or POC for you?

 

I'm waiting to get my Perfex LN that I just ordered here yesterday. Looking at Stan's overlay tool, it looks like it'll be close but we'll see.

At least you'll have a perfect match with the Perfex resistance. I'm still thinking about getting one and selling my Silverback. The Silverback and Black Jack anchors are pretty close. I've just heard the Perfex is more consistent than the SB.

 

Would the ultraview hinge be consider having a long neck?
