I have two EVLs and love the bows but the grip is killing me ive tried stock and straight off the riser I don’t see how the side plates would be much different but maybe they are any body using any other options?

What exactly do you not like? Is it the angle or the contact area or comfort or what?.

Could it be the shape of the riser/shelf that you dont like? I know they feel funny to me. I'm used to the Mathews grip with side plates, and anything with that lump on the shelf just isn't for me. Just can't get my hand rotated and up enough to feel right to me. Just a thought since you just came from a traverse.

You may not like it, but it's hard to argue that a flat back grip is more repeatable. It's not meant to be comfortable. Go look at what the pros shoot, to include Mathews and Hoyt pros. Almost every single one is running a flat back grip on their target bows. PSE just makes it a standard across the board, even on the cheap Stinger.

My 2016 PSE 25" X-Appeal recurve riser has the same angled base underneath the atrocious wood grip that came with it. I got tired of shooting off just the riser because it was a little thin, and it looked silly with no grip, so I modified the factory grip into side plates. Took some cutting, filing, sanding, and fine tuning the fitment... got it how I wanted, then stained it. Problem solved, problem staying solved.

I really have no issues with it off the riser.
I might try some sugru on the back to add more angle , but won't add anything on the sides.

I recently got one of the grips Tom Gillingham sells for bowtechs and it is really nice. He has 4 different degrees to choose from, and 2 different widths , so 8 different options.
I got a 9 degree, regular width for my bowtech it is pretty sweet.
