Q: Best string silencers? A: Beaver balls!

Long story short, I had trouble with string silencers sliding on my new custom waxless strings. I was about to put bowjax silencers between the strands and as I reached for the package I saw seven dollar beaver balls and decided to give them a try. Holy cow my bow has never been so quiet. If you can get past the looks of them they perform amazing!

Don't count on them lasting very long if you shoot much. Also, have you checked the tune on your bow since installation?

I had them on my recurves but I believe they are too light and won't last long on a compound bow. Recurves don't have the same amount of energy and most of the noise is in the string or at the limb string junction. Compounds are not the same and require more JMHO.

I have some on my longbows for the "traditional" look, and they do work pretty well. However nothing in my 40+ years of bowhunting experience has ever worked better than good 'ol rubber catwhiskers. Just tie them on with serving and call it a day. Waterproof and they last a long time.

Probably won't last long on a compound but the old whisker style work phenomenally well.

I have bloodline strings (waxless) on my Revolt and these slide a bit after tying on, but barely. I may press and put a small knot through the string on either side, but I'm not worried about it that much.

They've worked better than any of the wrap around rubber ones that pull through themselves.

Sweet. I have been interested in doing something like this for the past few days after seeing a video of how quiet an EVL sounded with some RIDICULOUSLY large yarn balls. I have two sets of beaver balls taken off my recurves that I'm going to try. I currently have cat whiskers--which so many folks say are the best--but I want to hear the difference for myself.

As an Oregon State University alum (1969) and member of the soccer team I thought I had heard all the Beaver humor that existed and believe me there's a great deal around with varying degrees of both humor and crudeness. However, Beaver balls on a bow string is both new (At least to me) and cute especially if one is amused by testicular comedy.

I used Beaver Balls for years and they've held up great on my compounds, I put them on when the string is new and two years later when I change strings they are still in good shape. I did switch to the X spot whiskers on my current bow because it's slow and the rubber whiskers don't drop the speed as much.

I tried them and they don't work as well as catwhisker on compounds. Maybe they work better than bats, leeches etc AND DARN SURE better than nothing which is the route many seem to take but still not as good as the cat whiskers.

Also cat whiskers even vary......the black rubber are good )the split the difference in weight between the old Spider legs (which I have found to be the best) and then you have the fly fishing style that are the lightest of all and work the least but again still better than nothing.

Other than the string stops on my bows I haven't used string silencers in years....
