I am going on my first guided elk hunt the last week of september. For anyone who has been on a guided hunt like this, what would be the appropriate amount to tip my guide?:)

depends on how much you are able to or comfortable giving. ask the outfitter for advice, ask folks here for advice etc,

personally I think a "rule" of 15% is silly. On a $4K elk hunt, that is a $600 tip, times two hunters per guide, thats $1200/week in tips for the guide.

And it also depends on how the guide performs.

My suggestion is to determine ahead of time, the max you are willing/able to give. Maybe that's in the 10-15% range. Then, towards the end of the hunt, based on the guide's performance, you determine how much of your "max" you're willing to give them.

Also, you may want to find out how many people will be "working" for you.
Obviously there will be the guide, but will there also be cooks, wranglers, etc. in camp? If so, ask the outfitter his/her suggestion as to how much they should be tipped.
