I have had great success with the 2.3” 2 blade Rage at short whitetail range of less than 20 yards with Axis 340’S, 30” draw, 56#, complete pass thru. The 100 gr hypodermic +P made a nice finishing shot at 50 yards on a pronghorn same arrow, 62#. I will also admit I have made some poor shots at mule deer at long range but the Rage 2.3” did enough damage to allow me to harvest those animals with follow up shots.

I used Rage from 2011 to 2018. Never had a failure. I did have one buck I stuck in the shoulder and had zero penetration. I have done that one other time over the years with a fixed blade. Almost all my other deer fell within eye sight. I switched because they don’t fly as well as advertised, especially at longer distances. I have went back to the old Thunderheads. They fly perfect; just the same as field points.

2.3” chisel tips have not let me down in 4 years. Shooting 68-72lbs 29” draw length. FMJ 5mm 340 @28” 4 fletched 495 grains. Pass through on 80% of white tails. Times I did not get pass throughs were quartering away shot where I hit the shoulder on the way out. Will be trying the Hypos this year, but will still have 2 chisels in the quiver!

My hunting partner uses Rage. Shot a speed goat at 45 yards last season and after the shot the goat wheel and ran towards us/decoy and then across the front of us (hope that made sense)... Anyway the blood spray coming out of the exit hole at full run was like a fire hose on fog. Death run for about 50 yards and then face planted into the dirt. It was quite impressive.

Used Rage when they first came out , back when they used a rubber O ring and found the blades were always coming loose. Just one more thing to worry about , so went to fixed. Now I know they've fixed some of the issues but I really like the cut on contact , don't worry about the front of my arrow anymore. My set up of 55# and 28" draw was probably boarder line for Rage any way. Not a hater just not a fan of mechanicals.

I'm with this guy, same boat. Killed my first deer with the classic 2" 2 blade with rubber O ring. Complete pass through at 30 yards with 62-ish pounds. Dead in 70 yards. However, that O ring would have me baby sitting my arrow the whole time I sat in the tree and walked around the woods. Paranoia was always there about accidental deployments. I never got over that and the plain and simple fact that they are one and done broadheads. Hit or miss that head is done. Some of the cheapest materials to use in the manufacturing and still raking in over $40 a pack. Some guys will claim to just touch em up on the sharpener and they're good to go. Fortunate to not at least bend a blade. Left mechs all together 3 years ago and never going back. Piece of mind knowing there's never a deployment failure again in my future is a good feeling.

Mechanical broadheads fix a problem that doesn’t exist these days. So many fixed heads fly with field point I fail to see the need for them like you did 20 years ago.

There are so many high quality AMERICAN MADE fixed heads I don’t see the reason to shoot a mechanical made in China. Mangus, iron will, exodus, etc. will do you right.

I shoot the Hypos. All game dies in sight less than 50 yards. Except one a made a poor shot on a buck two years ago. String caught bow arm and the arrow one blade caught the deer and sliced his wind pipe. Found him 150 yards away in his bed. I had a blood trail to follow. Drops at times.

Last year I used the NC rage 100.

axis 340 452 gr. 284 FPS.

I have had very good luck with the Trypan rage broad heads. I was a fan of the trypan collar, because there was no way to screw it up. They always performed very well for me. What It really just comes down to is shot placement in the end the brand of broad head really doesn’t matter.

I used Rage for quite a few years and they are either awesome or terrible. I personally do not use them anymore lost a few deer that I could not figure out what happened and will never know without footage or deer the most recent seemed like good hit just a touch high I have since moved to good fixed heads and use Magnus and Iron Will mostly but have even had good experiences with Muzzy Trocars. I will never go back to shooting Rage the deer do not die faster IMO and the negatives outweigh the positives

I've tried an awful lot of broad heads and to be frank, Rage is the only brand I flat refuse to try anymore. I started with the o-ring style, then the hypodermic, and lastly the chisel tip extremes. Each three pack had one head that wouldn't fly well and all of them ad a slight whistle. Not a big deal. I shot 6 of 9 heads & all killed efficiently. The reason I won't try them anymore is because I have also shot numerous other types from numerous other brands & not had any of the issues I experienced with Rage. The exception is Dead Meats. They flew fine but were so loud I wouldn't hunt with them. Much louder than any of the Rage. The absolute truest flying and quietest heads I've shot are Raptor Tricks. I just hate that it wastes an o-ring to even test shoot them, which I do with every head before hunting with it. I like NAP and Grim Reaper mechanical heads because they fly straight & quiet without using an o-ring. I also like Wasp Jackhammers. They have an o-ring but it doesn't break, just rolls back the shaft & can be reused. And there are still way more heads that I have yet to try. So far anything Rage and Dead Meat are crossed off my list. Just too many awesome heads to waste money on them again.

Did you really want to know or were you just getting to 20 posts. The reason I ask is this is a pointless thread. You will hear they are great....they suck and everything in-between so really you are right back where you started before you posted it.

Right now using the 3 blade chisel tip sc. made a less than ideal shot lethal earlier in the year. I didn’t do my job but it did it’s job. Then killed my first bow buck with another later in the year. Went through shoulder blade and double lunged. Only went 70 yds. Seem to get good penetration even with my 26.5” draw length and 60 lb draw weight. I do add a little weight up front.

i just wanted to hear from people that have actually use and have used them, not people saying, they’re crap every body i know hates them,
Aside from one post where the guy dismissed mechanical in general, that's exactly the responses you've gotten. Most are good. Some are bad. None are blindly bashing or calling them crap. Every single negative opinion was given with legitimate reasons based on real experiences. All in all I'd say you got very good, honest and concise responses from both ends of the spectrum.

For one , realize if you use a fixed head your bow needs to be in tune (broadhead tuning) - test them . I have some vintage old thunderheads laying around and will never use them . I buy the cheap Chinadermics - chinese copy cat junk that work just fine for $1.30 each . RAGE . Hypo's are all you will ever need . They make nice holes and critters die very fast . Been using them for many years and won't change . People are haters and judgemental about every thing . Just ignore them . Welcome OFFSHORE to world of AT . Heres a couple from last fall to prove they do work , yes , $1.30 each . Kill a deer and throw em away .
