To my absolute delight, my two nephews (8 & 10yo) just got into archery. I'm already daydreaming about taking them on their first elk hunt.

10th birthday is coming up, and I'm curious if you all have some creative archery related gift ideas for kids? I know they could use a multi-pin sight, but that's not the most exciting gift in the world.

For reference, they share a Diamond bow and an index release. They have one foam target they share with their dad, and have acreage to play with. BUT, I'd like to keep the gift to ~$60.

Someday I'll fletch them each up some custom arrows, but that won't fall into the budget for this year.

If you're handy and they have a place to shoot at home, maybe get some skins from Third Hand Archery and build a target for them. I think the skins are about $30-$35 and if you already have the supplies at hand, you could keep it to the $60ish range. All in, mine cost about $100, but I had to buy a few supplies. ThirdHand Inc is their website if you wanna check it out.

And congrats on having young people you can mentor in archery! Super cool!

Might be able to swing a used bow so they can each shoot with their own. I was able to get a shoot able PSE mini burner on Facebook marketplace by posting looking for a youth bow for $55. Post on facebook or Craigslist and if you are lucky you will find someone sitting on one taking up space.

if you aren’t able to that route, I think a couple of different plastic reusable animal target faces on sale at bass pro might be fun so they can shoot at different fun targets.

My suggestion would be to help them personalize their gear. something like color accessories string silencers stabilizers. I bought my daughters each a soft case then took them to the local embroidery shop and had their names put on them. if they have cases like hard cases you can get personalized stickers. A way to differentiate one for the other.

Buy 1 his own release & they won't have to share.. Doesn't have to be an expensive one. I started all my kids/G-kids on $15 ones from Walmart. They are kids & may not stick with it. I know, we have 5 kids & 15 G-kids. 1 son veteran bowhunter & 3 G-sons too. Others didn't stay with it & G-Pa has been in it for over 6 decades. Plenty of target quivers reasonable & decent too. Think of things for each-not necessary to share. We all like our own stuff..

Knowledge and experiences. Gifts only go so far. Memories stick forever.
  • Build a ground blind or permanent tree stand on their property so they can hunt there for years
  • Bring them to a local shooting range that has different style targets.
  • Take them on a turkey hunt.
  • as @JacobH52 said. Camera and walk the property with them, teaching them how to ID "the best" place (beddng area's, scrapes, rubs, tree types, etc.) to put it camera. They will be able to check it for months and be excited about what's out there and fill you in on where they think the deer are coming and going and were to sit for the season.

Thank you all for the insightful replies.

Some takeaways:
  • Trail cams, go out and set them up together (knowledge & experience> things)
  • Customized bow hanger. Found some cool options on Etsy.
  • Youth binos (Vortex Bantam)- get them excited about glassing, also great to encourage longer range shooting.
  • Fun target faces, keeps things fresh.
  • DIY target. Incorp some hand tools and woodworking lessons.
Despite the post originally being about archery gifts, I ended up going with JacobH52's suggestion of a bugle tube. Added in some Phelps Mini Amp diaphragms. I had so much fun learning to elk call, and I know they'll feel the same; especially when they get that first call back from a live bull. Bonus is my sister (their mom) having to hear bugles all day

Happy shooting!
