I have a question about trad bow strings. For a 60" amo ilf bow used for 3D and hunting is there any difference in performance between the Flemish twist and a continues loop string and who do you suggest fir purchasing a string.
Thanks
Brian

This is an issue that is frequently discussed here, since this is a traditional forum and traditional is the only place where Flemish twist strings are used.

The general conclusion is that a well made Flemish twist string is as good as a continuous loop.

I think the difference is that a poorly made continuous loop is better than a poorly made Flemish twist string.

The other difference is that you can shoot a continuous loop string with no twists in it if you had to. I have done it. If you try the same with Flemish twist then the string will come apart.

The only reason you might need to shoot an under twisted string is if you don't have the proper string length down yet.

There are too many people successful with both string styles to think that this is nothing more than personal preference.

I make my own continuous loop strings. I bought a few Flemish twist strings for my longbow from Rick Barbee. I figure when I work through those I will make continuous loop replacements.

The only difference I notice is in material and strand count.

I make my own strings....and went to endless as its easier for me...since I have the jig. I've settled on 12 strands of BCYX....

Lots of good string builders....I would stay away from the generic strings from the big manufacturers...I've had bad luck with those.

Performance wise, a chronograph will show you an increase in arrow speed with a continuous loop string.
My endless loops are made with hardly any twists, maybe four or five, cause it's not needed. And with an endless loop, I can drop strand count and pick up more fps.i use the Brownell TPU speed nocks that helps a lot in quieting the bow when I'm shooting 3D and don't want the weight of silencers slowing my string down

Just some of my thoughts on bowstrings. I believe an endless loop string sets in faster than a flemish twist string and is easier to build at a consistent length. I have seen Flemish strings stretch for a long while until they are set. As far as strand count I don't agree with building low strand count strings. The speed difference between a 12 and 16 strand string is very slight, about 2 FPS in my tests, and the higher strand count strings are more durable, quiet, and consistent shot to shot. My go to string is a continuous loop 16 strand D97 string. I have tried 8125 and 8190F but prefer the feel of the D97. My highest scores were also shot with D97 so I may be a bit prejudiced. I should probably add this is for bow that can handle the modern string material. On older bows I use B55 and 16 strands.

I have a new 66" ILF Longbow that I am setting up, and found that 63" endless loop Fast Flight string gave me a 9" brace height untwisted.

I went to a 62" Fast Flight Flemish twist and was able to get to 7" brace height with decent twist. Added a few more to get to a stable 8" brace height. I was surprised that the longer endless loop sting gave a higher brace height than the 62" Flemish.
