Hi everyone,
Re-posting here (from the general archery forum) on someone's advice.
I'm moderately proficient with a compound bow but am having some real trouble with a recurve I just got: it's shooting far to the right of what if expect. Details below. I'd greatly appreciate your suggestions about this!
Facts about me/the bow: draw length of 30", draw weight about 30 lbs, I shoot right-handed, not using a release, arrows are 32-inch carbon with 400 spines and 100 grain field points.
The issue: The bow shoots arrows pretty far to the right of what I would expect - I have the sight (a very very simple single pin) set all the way to the right and the arrows still hit to the right of that. Arrows are hitting maybe a two or three inches to the right of where the sight pin is (when it's maxed to the right) at twenty yards. The arrows have feather style fletchings. The rest is a little tab of plastic adhered to the side of the riser. What's making this happen? How do I resolve it?
I normally shot a compound with a release and don't have this issue. With this recurve I'm shooting fingers and using a different anchor (thumb along jaw for recurve, thumb back by ear and using a kisser button for compound). I wouldn't think this is affecting my point of impact much, and if anything I'd guess that my recurve anchor puts the nock a little to the right which I'd think would make the arrow shoot to the left.
Guesses as to maybe why arrows are shooting to the right:
-Maybe the fletchings are hitting the rest, bumping the rear of the arrow to the left so that the whole thing tracks to the right
-The string has rubbery cylinders that are intended to protect your fingers. I thought that could be throwing things off (and I'm sure is affecting consistency to some degree) but the rightward trend continued even when I slid them away and shot fingers on string.
-Maybe something in my form is off. That's certainly possible, it's been a long time since I've really shot a recurve. But this isn't poor grouping, this is arrows flying too far to one side for a sight to work, which makes me think this isn't primarily a form issue.
Thanks for your suggestions!
