Request for info on an API stand.....Grand Slam Shooting Star

So I picked up an API Grand Slam Shooting Star (model GS2600SS) and tried contacting API for the user manual/instruction booklet that would have come with the stand when new.

The API name has since been bought out by Big Game Tree Stands and according to the customer service rep that I've been talking to, only the name was bought, not any of the rights to the previous stands and she couldn't help me with the booklet and basically told me I was out of luck. Period.

So I'm wondering if anyone here on AT may have one that they can scan to .pdf for me. I'm mainly trying to find the illustration for how the top and bottom sections nest together for transport. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!!

My email chain with the rep.....

Hello,

I recently purchased a used Grand Slam Shooting Star (model GS 2600SS) and was wondering if you had the owners/safety manual in PDF form in a location that I can download it? If not can you please mail me one? I'd be happy to pay any fees required for the manual and the postage.

Also, how would one go about getting new chain covers?

Thank you,

to me

Steve,

Thank you for contacting API Outdoors. We have just taken over the manufacturing of the API line of products this spring. We unfortunately don’t have any information from the previous manufacturer in regards to the products that were previously manufactured.

If you have additional questions or comments reply directly to this email and I will assist you further.

What?? You're kidding me right? You took over a company that manufactured tree stands and you didn't get any of the documentation for those tree stands in the turn over? All I need is the owners manual for the stand. Sounds to me as if someone dropped a very large ball in this acquisition. Wow!

I must say that I'm absolutely flabbergasted. People trust their lives to these stands when they are in use and ultimately people will resell them later on when they decide to upgrade or switch directions. The new owners need a way to educate themselves on these products so that they can be used safely to protect themselves from falling out of a tree.

I'm wondering now, are you telling me that all API stands that were manufactured prior to the take over by Big Game will not be supported any longer?

to me

Steven,

I do understand your frustration, as it is frustrating on our end also. Unfortunately when we purchased the name API we didn’t purchase any of the previous products or the information on the products. You could contact Bass Pro’s customer service as they had the products prior to 2011 to see if they have the information needed.

If you have additional questions or comments reply directly to this email and I will assist you further.

I have 2 of them, great stands, comfortable and very lightweight if you have the aluminum ones. I called api last week and got the same deal, apparently they bought the company but didnt get any spare parts or rights to manufacture the original stands so they just started making all new stands with the same name . . .wierd. Anyway, do a search for the chain covers, use the clear vinyl tubing on teh chains and remove the plastic pieces, theres a couple of threads on here about how to do it. Nesting together, I turn one piece upside down and fit them together. This way my backpack straps are on the bottom of the foot piece and I dont have to remove them for climbing since they just hang under teh stand. I use 2 bungie cords to hold them together for carrying. I cant remember which piece fits into the other piece right offhand but if you set the foot piece on the ground then flip the seat piece over, it either fits into or around the foot piece. If you cant figure it out lemme know, I'll take a pic of mine nested together and post it for you. GL

Oh yeah.......I scored this stand for $25.00 on a craigslist deal. I'm pretty happy overall about it. When you factor in the Lone Wolf sit and climb that I bought the same week, I made out pretty good. :)

np, get a hazemore seat for it and you will be set. Also, something I did to mine, did away with the sling seat strap for climbing. The bar that swings in the front, I cut about 8-10 inches off it and put it back on, took the knobs and flat pieces of aluminum for adjustment off totally. Now I sit on that bar for climbing, when I'm set I swing it down and use it as a footrest or swing it up under the seat and its out of the way completely. I guess if you rifle hunt some you could swing it up and use it for a rest. I have 2 of them I have done this too and dont regret it. I hated trying to sit in that clip on strap seat thing.

for 25 bucks you stole it :)
