Restringing old browning?

I have an old browning dual cam compound bow that needs one of the buss cables replaced but I was told that I can't replace them because the bow is too old. Something about browning not making the metal cable anymore. So I was wondering if it was possible to replace the cams with newer cams and run newer non metal cable? If so is this a cable that I can custom build?

I have an old Browning about 10 years old. It needed new cables and string installed. They ended up having to fabricate one out of another set of cables and string. It ended up costing me $80.00. That is why I purchased a new bow last year. Old bows cost too much to maintain. Just like an old car, when you fix one thing, another thing goes out on it.

Welcome to Archery Talk. In answer to your questions, replacing the cams and string and cables would be way more than the bow is worth. String and cable sets go anywhere from $60.00 to $100.00 or more. Cams run from $100.00 up. Your best bet is to retire the bow and look for a good deal on a used Elite (transferrable warranty) on the AT classifieds. I mention Elite only because of the warranty. Good luck.

So lets take this from a fun theoretical side, Say I really wanna keep this bow and don't care about purchasing new limbs so that I can run cams that support a non metal cable, I am assuming that I would look for limbs from a bow that are similar in dimensions to my existing limbs and riser that support the type of cams I wanna run and then building or purchasing a custom length cable for it?
