I want to pass along a tip for users of safety harnesses in treestands.
Many times you'll be in a tree that is too big in diameter to reach and put your safety rope around. So instead of saying, oh heck with it.....I came up with my own way of securing me to a tree.
I take a screw in tree step and screw it in as high as you can reach safely, a foot or so over head. Then I take my rope which is attached to my harness and put the loop over the step and that is my substitute for putting the rope around the tree. You can actually do it with all trees, not just real big ones. On some of my fixed stands, I have heavy duty screw in steps I leave there and get hooked up real quick! Let the rope hang and then adjust the prussic knot as needed.
