Shooting at trees?

Okay—I know this may be a dumb question...but...does it "kill" arrows (with field points) to shoot at trees? Meaning...is a solid wood tree trunk so hard that it would damage/destroy an arrow? Or is it no problem?

I ask because if it were fine to shoot at trees (particularly dead snags), that would make a potentially enjoyable "alternate target" to my bag target (that gets shot at all the time).

I do realize one issue with shooting at trees: missing them! (e.g. losing my arrows forever in the woods behind the tree, LOL). But I might take that risk at least once to try it (if it won't kill my arrows).

Thanks,
Scott

PS - I shoot with a recurve bow—not compound—and use carbon arrows.
ok, for those that seemed to have missed it, i highlited his bow choice.

like was mentioned earlier, guys have been stump shooting for eons to keep their skills sharp. using an appropriate point or a slip on rubber blunt, you should have minimal issues.

now, since you are using carbon arrows, i would make it part of your routine to inspect the arrows often...like about every time you retrieve them. carbon isnt quite as forgiving in some aspects as the heavier aluminum is.

Trad guys do it. your best source of info on this question would be in the Traditional sub-forum.
