Longer overall length is always better.
If you're set on a given overall length, shorter riser + longer limbs will be smoother, and a longer riser with shorter limbs will give you a couple of extra fps or two (literally, a couple).
I shoot a 17 inch riser with long limbs at close to 30 inches of draw. I think it’s a good balance of forgiveness and compact for hunting or 3D archery
I shoot 58, 60 and 62 inch bows and I draw to 29 inches. I have a 15 inch ILF riser and medium limbs which makes a 58 inch bow. Keep in mind what size riser the limbs are rated on. That makes a difference.
I have a 13" riser with short limbs. Its not forgiving at all. If you know what you're doing its fine but for any kind of competition I'd go with the longest bow you can get away with for the extra forgiveness.
Thanks for the great info I been shooting compound for 40 years been shooting recurve black hunter recurve for 60 days and doing real good like to give recurve a try Going to great Ilf bow a try in the trad class. I have a 27 draw And shooting 30 lbs now like to up my draw weight I doint like shooting long distance with compound any more that is what I like about trad shooting its all short ranges Going with 35 lbs good limbs and a cheaper riser Ilf riser what do you think about that 30 lbs 25 riser will give me what draw weight on a 19 riser with a 27 draw Thanks for info
