I've seen people with 6", 9" and 12" bars on their sights that often have them pulled in to half their useful length. Why is this? Wouldn't you want the bar to be at a full extension to afford you the maximum line of sight?

There are a couple of reasons that you might not want to use the whole length.

As you increase the distance, you also increase the need for precise sight position.

Not all scopes have the same depth of focus and clarity for all shooters, at the maximum length.
