I’ve been a bow hunter for a while now and have gotten into 3D shoots this year. Looking for a better suited sight for 3D that I can also us in the woods hunting. At the moment considering the Black Gold Pro sight and CBE Engage Hybrid, any opinions or other suggestions? Thank you.

I also recently started shooting 3D after hunting for years (that's partly the reason I joined AT). I have a Spot Hogg Hunter on my hunting rig. Like you, I am in the process of deciding what to build for a 3D bow (with the flexibility to use for hunting as well).

I like the durability and brightness of Spot Hogg (even without a light) for hunting and have been considering a Fast Eddie XL. I like the double pin arrangement where you'd have a second pin for a longer shot or extremely close at a steep angle from a tree stand. At least in concept it would seem to be advantageous for hunting as well as a large sight picture in 3D. Of course other sights have double pins so there are options. I suppose it comes down to adjustability and reliability.

A question I have had is the durability of sight tapes for hunting, particularly in rain.

I shoot single pin sights and I tried a SH Tommy Hogg sights and they are very well built but I changed to an HHA Tetra for really just 2 reasons. The first is that the scope aperture on the SH sights is only held in place with one screw which can allow the aperture to twist on the windage bar...I had it happen once. The other is that I felt the HHA pin was just a little brighter at dawn and dusk. You'll be happy with any of the top brands though.

I’m a big fan of Spot Hogg and I’ve tried them all (any of the sights mentioned are fine, with CBE being last on the list) but there’s something about Spot Hogg’s tank-like tendencies that keep me putting them on my bows.

The Hogg father would be my choice for 3D and hunting (& it is). It’s got better micro tuning abilities than the Fast Eddie XL. I use a 2 pin for 3D but am trying the new 3 pin as well as a 5 pin on another rig this year. For hunting I don’t want to have to roll a sight, stuff happens in the moment too often to worry about that.

I like Spot Hogg’s MRT design too. It truly works in all light conditions better than any other housing.

How "deep" you want to go in 3D? You could use your present sight for hunting and then get a sight frame and scope. Learning install them and there is no need to sight back in. I did it with my TX4. Axion 3 pin for hunting and a Sure Loc Challenger for more precision......

I have tried HHA, Spot Hogg, and Black Gold. Our of all of those I like the Black gold the best but after waiting 4 months for an order from BG I cancelled and decided to go another direction. I'm going with an Axcel Accutouch Carbon Pro with a bowfinger 20/20 scope. I also will get a av-31 scope to try that on the accutouch to see what I like better.

Having a sight that will do both well is settling a bit IMO. It's like an enduro bike........good on trails and good on the street but not great at either...........lol. In the end you have a big cumbersome hunting sight and a less functional 3D sight.
