I set my first pin at 23 yards that's the top of the arch the arrow travels at 280 fps-it hits top of the X at twenty and bottom of the X at twenty five the rest of the pins are just a matter of personal preferance or familiarity.
When I started back to shooting a few years ago, 25 yds was the longest shot I could get in my yard. I wanted a pin there. It also worked well at my local range. The targets there were every 5 yds, with one target at each distance. Most folks seemed to be shooting 20, 30.... So the 25, 35...targets were open much more.
Once in the habbit, I just stuck with those distances.
I always wondered why some guys site there pins in at odd yardages also. So not knowing I asked. I was told the odd yardages are because those are the average yardages of 3D tagets on the course. Sounds good to me. My sights are set at the even yardages though. I'm not good enough for those odd ones.
