Folks,

I'm new to archery and shopping for my first bow and accessories. One accessory I plan to buy right away is a caliper-style release.

A pro shop owner recently told me that single calipers offer more consistent releases than double calipers because single calipers hold the bowstring in the same place every time and double calipers may not. What are your experiences here?

Second question: what is the benefit of using a "loop" style release like the Scott Silverhorn over a simple caliper-style release? I plan to buy a caliper-style release and use it with a loop but want to make sure I'm not missing something obvious or important.

I'm sorry if these are silly questions but it's all part of the learning curve for me.

Thanks,

Flyguy

I shoot a short-n-sweet s2 release, made for string loop. You can load it faster into your loop. As long i will shoot with a loop i will use this style of release. Much better for string loop than a caliper release, IMO. And im more accurate than with my old caliper release.

Good luck.

Just my $0.02, but it seems to me that 99% of the shooters out there don't have a good enough shot to notice the very fine difference between a single and double caliper release. As long as the caliper is in good working order, any variation should be so small that would would be lucky to see it on a shooting machine.

That being said, all of my current releases are of the single caliper or hook type design. Not for any particular reason other than that is what comes on the style of release that fits my hand best.

At your stage in the game, pick a release that has a good trigger (Carter Two shot, quickie, TruBall Short-N-Sweet) and fits you comfortably. Then spend the time working on your form and your shot sequence.

Not to sound like a smart ***** but as with all of us, it will be quite awhile before you are to the stage of the game where you would be able to tell the difference. I consider my self a very good shot and I don't think I could tell the difference.

I shoot a single caliper release, the Scott Mongoose. It works well for me, but truthfully so do various double caliper releases. I like the Scott, and I shoot off the string, not with a loop. I think the single caliper releases are easier on serving wear than double ones, though probably not that much. If you're planning to shoot with a loop, just shoot whatever you feel comfortable with.

I have a Short N Sweet

I really like it. It tried about a half dozen and found this one to be best for me.
It is a great release.
