Is Sitka gear really worth the hype for the coin? I'm fortunate enough to get a hefty discount from them due to my employer so jackets and pants are basically $100+ off. Former coworker swears by it. Told me it'll be the last camo I ever buy. But I want more input, most people I know that hunt don't have Sitka gear (guessing due to the price tag). I started going through my sets of camo I have and want to go with one line, rather than the multiple brands/patterns I currently have.

I could never, in good conscience, no matter how good pay retail. That said when I could get a discount 10+ years ago I bought several pieces.
  • Timberline pant
  • Jetstream Jacket
  • Kelvin vest
  • Baselayer shirt (can't remember the name), would not buy again, off brand baselayer is too good these days.

I don't hunt a ton, 5-15 days/ year of I'm being honest. That said everything above except the baselayer isthe some of the best money I've ever spent on outdoor gear! Unfortunately it doesn't grow with you...

I have a few different pieces from different companies. I don't love the color options sitka uses (the ground forest is more applicable to the areas I hunt). The gear itself is nice, but no better as a whole than the pieces I bought from scentlok, first lite, etc. I will from now on as I replace old stuff buy specific pieces that fit my needs from any of the above companies plus various others. The traverse hoody I have is excellent for certain needs, but the duck oven isn't even close to as good as some other brands for a "warmer" jacket. The apex pants are nice, but the first lite obsidian merino were better for me. I don't care about matching camo. Function over color for me.

All of this is my personal opinion.
I like Sitka better than First Lite and it has held up better than Kuiu.
I pretty much use the stratus pants most the season. Jetstream jacket too. When it gets really cold I switch to Incinerator bibs and First Lite sanctuary jacket.
I also wear the lightweight hoody all the time early season.
The heavyweight half zip is nice.
The traverse jacket is great early season. Full zip and has facemark hoody combo... not windproof and kind of a bulkier compared to jetstream but that combo of traverse under jetstream works well.
My biggest draw is the subalpine pattern. I swear I get picked off more in the elevated until the leaves fall off. I wear leafy bottoms over the stratus pants most the time.
I picked up a used muff for half price a few years ago and that thing gets some serious use.
If you're just diving into Sitka start with windproof pieces like stratus or jetstream.

Have you ever tried the stratus bibs?

I have the early whitetail series, most of their base layers, and the fanatic series (my favorite set for any hunt after late October). Know how to layer and you'll be warm, but with Sitka, you won't need much layering due to their materials used. Sitka also has a great warranty program (from what I've heard).

It really depends on what kind of hunting you plan on doing. I bought the stratus jacket and bibs on sale while my cousin got the fanatic set. Stratus set to me is very versatile to me as a whitetail stand hunter. Live in south Louisiana and also hunt in NW Missouri during rut in November or muzzleloader in late December. It’s light enough to use in south la milder winter but was able to with the help of some layers hunt last yr in 3 degree real feel of -17 in Missouri. Very flexible set up for me bc I think the windproof ability of the stratus really helps keep the body heat contained vs wind blowing it out. My cousin can only use his fanatic up north due to it being a warmer set. So depends if you’re going to be stand hunting and staying put for hours at a time or if going to be more mobile like elk hunting etc…

Buddy of mine is a regional rep and the same size as me. I've tested the major of models pro bono just for kicks. I hunt around 100 days a year usually more in every condition. The biggest test is cold windy tree climber sets, cold freezing Waterfowl hunts and high altitude hunts. It's no better than the majority of clothing lines out there as far as warmth or quality. I would say the fit and flex is really good. That said any clothing line is better than first lite. Don't fund the enemy of the second amendment and hunting with your hard earned money by buying first lite ever.

I have the FL Solitude set(s) - old set without windblocker and new set with. After reading and researching Sitka & FL, it seemed the comparison between FL & Sitka was Solitude vs Stratus. Camofire had the Stratus in FO on sale and I decided to give it a try. IMHO, there's no comparison between the Stratus & Solitude. The Stratus is basically a windproof shell with no insulation. I have to layer pretty well in the 40's and wear a puffy under with layers below those temps. The Solitude needs less layering due to the insulation. The Solitude is definitely a little bulkier compared to the Stratus, but once I layer under the Stratus, the Solitude is more comfortable. Anyway, with the Solitude being less expensive than the Stratus, I'm happy with my choice. Finally, if I had paid full price ($350) for the Stratus, I would be a bit more critical, but since I paid a little more than 1/2 of that, it's not too bad.

You first lite wearers truly make me sick. How can you be so ignorant as to give your hard earned money to an enemy that 1. Is anti hunting 2. Is anti second amendment and 3. Donates hundreds of thousands to the democratic party. Don't try even giving an answer as there isn't one that is valid other than you didn't know. Now you do.

Hunted in Sitka and First Lite from summer to winter. All the First Lite gear failed: not windproof, not waterproof/barely water resistant, stitching blow outs, material failure, weak zippers, loose fitting and catching on everything. The Sitka gear did everything claimed. I cut off the hood on my Incinerator jacket as It was useless. I am going to try Kuiu and DayOne Camo next season.

From a former Walmart camo, wrangler and carhartt wearing hunter who graduated to Sitka, yes it’s worth the money. I used to have to wear so many layers of sweatshirts, sweatpants, coats and hats to stay warm. I wore probably 20 pounds of clothes into the woods at times. Having good technical gear with a warranty is the best thing you can get. I say scour eBay and this site or Facebook for used stuff vs paying full price. It will make a difference for sure. People
Will argue about the camo itself but that’s really not as important as what purpose the piece of clothing serves like keeping you warm or cool. I am very glad that I spent a chunk of change on the few pieces I have for sure.
I have the stratus bibs and jacket as well as the traverse bibs and jacket and they last me through the winter with some extra layers on underneath just fine

Sitka, First Light, Kuiu, basically all of the top tier brands are worth paying for. Granted I'm always looking for deals also because retail sucks. but fortunately there are always some killer new/used deals on forum classifieds. Once you fully appreciate the quality and comfort of these brands in the field, you'll never go back. merino is a game changer in late hunts for example.
Buy once Cry Once...;)

Personally I really like the fit of Sitka I can’t see paying retail for it but if you can catch it on sale or are eligible for the pro program then it really isn’t a bad price compared to other camo brands out there. All mine is early season stuff since I live in Louisiana and it doesn’t get that cold often.
