Sitka stratus

Wondering if I can get some advice on the sitka stratus series? I know it seems popular with some while others think its overpriced. I need something good for bowhunting in temperature ranges from the mid 20's on up through the upper 50's. I obviously plan for the colder temps that I will need to layer underneath it. I am thinking of ordering a jacket and if I like it get the bibs also. I am just a treestand whitetail hunter so if someone has any other suggestions let me know. I definitely want something that is windproof. Also I have heard the sizes run true while others say they are on the smaller side ? Thanks

I don't think there is anything out there that would surpass the Stratus system for its weight. The 100% windproof Gortex makes ALL the difference. I found the jacket sizing true but the pant has a weird waist sizing. A large is 34" to 37". While this falls within my true waist size (35), I found it was snug on me especially if you try to tuck in multiple shirts.

I have the jacket and bibs. In fact, I got a second Stratus jacket in orange for rifle season (I shop sales and used and stuff so I don't ever really pay "shelf price," but that takes a lot of patience).

I love the Stratus stuff. The wind blocking capability is true to their word...wind doesn't get in, period.

I'm not a huge fan of the Elevated II camo pattern...I wish they'd offer in their Timber pattern.

That said, the Stratus is warm and comfortable. For temps in the 20's, I wear a few layers and use a heated vest.

A heated vest inside a Stratus jacket is AWESOME. And with the bibs, no cold up your back.

As far as I'm concerned it's still the holy grail of hunting jackets because of it's versatility. It isn't heavy enough that you can't wear it on a 60° day, and with proper layering it could take you way down into the teens. I would without a doubt go with the bibs over the pants as the pants don't have side zips which is idiotic. Buy it with confidence knowing you have the best money can buy.

It is IMO the most versatile treestand hunting system on the market. The windstopper makes it warmer than its weight. It's quiet, cut/fitted perfectly. The bibs are a must because if there was any gripe about it at first, it was that the jacket was a little short with the pant when it was at the lower end of the temp range. I've had my jacket going on 7 years now. Well worth the money IMO if you want to hunt whitetails in the midwest.

Love my stratus set. I can wear my stratus pants or jacket early season with nothing underneath but boxers and a T-shirt. And then I take it all the way to late December by adding my other Sitka layers. I wear the Sitka lightweight baselayer pants and shirt, then a pair of waterfowl wader pants for a mid layer, then my stratus pants. Over my lightweight baselayer shirt I wear the fanatic hoodie (which is the best Sitka piece IMO), and then I can wear a normal sitka hoodie or my celcius jacket in between the fanatic hoodie and stratus jacket if it’s really cold.

I have most of the whitetail line of Sitka. Full fanatic set, stratus bibs and beanies etc.

I'm in Southern wi, and lately its been in the low 30s and getting into the 50s as it warms up. Base layers, light pair of pants and stratus bibs and I set all day with comfort. Used the fanatic jacket just so I could go with a light shirt for the walk in (fanatic hoody) and then throw on the jacket so I didn't layer much.

Tommorow its gonna be mid 40s getting into 60s. Gonna do the bibs with just a base laywr and then the traverse hoody (its a jacket) and I should be golden.

The stratus bibs are awesome and I wear them a lot. They are zero bulk and way warmer than you would ever guess them to be. The fanatic isn't much warmer but way bulkier. I will get a stratus jacket next, I love that built in muff so thats why my fanatic jackets been going as of late.

I have hot shot bibs and a hot shot coat. But for temps above 20 degrees I probably won't have the coat on . ( Tshirt , long sleeve wool shirt, hoodie , and a flannel on top is normally good enough unless they are heavy winds)

I was hesitant because of the price, but I'm sold. It really helps when it is windy and keeps in heat for how light it is. I have the bibs, jacket and beanie. Only thing I'm annoyed about is the zipper on the one jacket pocket came off the track today.

I have the Stratus jacket and Bibs. It’s as awesome as everyone says. Fits true to size.
It is not super warm by itself. You will need to layer under it if you hunt below 40 degree temps. It’s good at keeping your heat in and blocking the wind. I hunted one day in 40 degree temps without layers and got very cold. My go to system is merino wool layers with the Celsius midi under the Stratus. This is dynamite

Saturday morning it was 33 degrees here. FL kiln bottom, stratus pants. FL kiln top, active insulation backpacking jacket, stratus jacket. It was plenty warm. For sizing, I wear a medium pant, large top, I like the layering room, and it’s not huge on me on its own. I’ll buck the bibs trend by saying bibs add material that makes it harder to layer, plus I don’t like the straps on my shoulder.

Anything from Sitka is great! I own the Stratus line as well as the Fanatic line. I live in central NC and can get away with the Stratus with the proper layering underneath but I also like having the Fanatic in case it’s insanely cold or I hunt a different state that’s colder than what I’m used to.

Well, I will go against the grain a little bit... I wear the Stratus set the majority of my hunts, but when it gets below 30 and not windy, I switch to my Predator G2 Whitetail jacket and pants. I just find them a bit warmer with layering, and I much prefer the Fall Gray pattern for late season tree stand bow hunting.

With that said, I own a ton of Sitka stuff and it is definitely the best!

I own many quality hunting clothes under many different brand names that do a good job, but the stratus and fanatic lineup are just next-level gear. With the stratus and proper layering, I can sit comfortably in virtually any weather MS can throw at me, I will use it from the 60's down into the 30's.

If you will hear me out I do have a point to make about pricing.

Back in the glory days, I raced cars, I started with a "cheaper" driving suit that afforded a certified level of fire protection, it was thick, bulky, and hot, almost like wearing a quilt. I later purchased an "expensive" driving suit that had it same certification but much better materials, it was thinner, cooler, and much more comfortable.

Hunting clothes are a lot like this, you can get cheaper clothes that afford the same level of protection but you pay the price in fit, bulk, and overall comfort, the status has one of the best weight-to-warmth ratios of any clothing systems I have.

I also have the stratus bibs jkt with the fanatic vest and midi top and bottoms. Fantastic set and crazy versatile but I do get cold easy. The Sitka is true to size not overly athletic fitting so can get a good base layer under your std size you wear. I would encourage going to the bibs if looking to extend it more into lower temps for sure.

I did just order the new first lite solitude set I’m a big first lite person and wanted this for the touch colder temps say singles to 20’s (where the day won’t warm up) hoping this will fill that void without having to pile on a ton of layers and don’t want the sanctuary bulk.

Bear in mind I can probably use the stratus in teens but only early season teens/20’s where the ground isn’t frozen solid and the sun comes up fast and in the 40’s in couple hrs. I’d have to say if later season where teens overnight and highs 20’s frozen ground I’ll need warmer for my blood so I’ll use the solitude hopefully.

I do wonder about this when people say they wear certain layers when its for example, 25 degrees. There's an astronomical difference between like "25 in the morning but hitting, say, 48 later" VS a morning that starts at 19 and then hovers around 28 for 4 hours before hitting 34. I could wear the stratus in the first case, but it would be a stretch at the second.

I like my stratus jacket, but have to wear some thicker layers around 20 degrees. It does great with the wind though. I have a reactor jacket for a mid in these temps. For under 20, I went with a fortress parka. For bibs, I skipped the stratus and went straight to the fanatic, love them for cold temps.

I use the stratus bibs and jacket from 30 to 60 degrees with different layering. Anything less than 30 and I take the fanatic with me. But I also get cold easier than most. The stratus with a good base layer and the celsius midi jacket is a pretty dang warm combination - especially if there is any wind at all.

If you want just one set., the stratus bibs and jacket would be it…can easily layer under for cold temps or remove in milder temps. The windhshear is top notch….only thing that would make it better is if they made it in the Fanatic cut with kangaroo pouch and cross zipper.

It really is top notch set
