Just wondering how big a buck needs to be to mount it for you? ( money is not into play here )

110 4/8 since that's the one that's already on the wal my dad shot 25+ years ago

I think its more a personal matter. If I were to shoot a dink deer back home..like say a 4 point, no way I would get it mounted. But then If I had a buck come in that really had some "ground shrinkage" and I thought for sure I had killed a good buck I would probably get him mounted. It all depends on how I felt about the deer at the moment I shot him. A mount to me, is meant to relive the hunt, therefore if I were to put him on my wall and think back to a special memory in my mind it was worth the mounting. Not so much about inches (score) to me..JMO

I like euro mounts better anyways. I'd probably euro mount a monster buck rather than a full head mount. Who knows though...I've never been in that position to choose...lol

i used to say a 10 point. but when i killed my 7 point doe, yes i said doe, i mounted it. anymore it would have to be 150 inch or better probably.

That's kinky. LOL

Many years ago I wanted to have a button buck shoulder mounted because it was my first with a bow, but the meat processor let it go with the man that took the capes because he didn't think I was serious. At this point I would say I'd have anything done that strikes my fancy.

I don't really have the room for more mounts. I killed a 160s last year and didn't mount it. It will have to be something very special to get on the wall. No disrespect to the animal because its about the challenge and the memories. It doesn't have to be on the wall to have great memories. I do euro mounts and keep them in my shop now. Its nice to be able to pick the rack up a look at it up close and touch it rather than just see it up on the wall.

I keep two on my living room wall. My biggest and my daughters first kill. Hers is the most special of any I have.

Have considered doing a euro mount spike or 4 point just to irritate a couple of my buddies. That and I could use the meat.....:teeth:

I mounted by buck last year that went 110", and it was my first deer with a bow. I now wouldnt mount anything less than 125", as that is my new minimum for bucks here. If I killed a 100" buck in nw wi I would probably get it mounted tho, because those deer are far and few between.

The bad thing with all these "inches" answers is the fact that not everyone lives in OH, WI, or KS. Feel bad for the FL boys, as I grew up there.

Has to be larger than my largest that is already on the wall. That is a 120" 9 pt. In my area though if it is 125" and above it is probably getting mounted

I have no standard. If it's a unique deer, it'll probably get mounted. If it's a deer that has a special meaning to me, for whatever reason, it'll probably get mounted. If it's bigger than anything I've killed, I'll probably mount it. All I want is to kill mature deer. Some have noteworthy racks, some don't, but they're all just as hard to kill.

This little non typical eight was my first bow kill so I put him on a plaque. I had everything I shot mounted. Grizzly, sheep, moose, deer, etc. but I sold it all to a taxidermist for about what I had in it to recover the cost of having the work done.

It wasn't a hardship sale, I gave the money to a charity. I was the only one who enjoyed it and a lot of people who visited my home didn't, including several close relatives. I wearied of it and sold it on a whim. I still have the little guy and a couple sets of antlers I sawed off the skulls. No real regrets as I've got a wall full of eight by ten glossies (some matte finish) and a fully functioning memory.

Times have changed again and I'm having a life size mount done on a black bear I took this fall. My wife suggested I do so. How often does that happen?

I'll get a euro done on my next big whitetail. Everyone should do what's meaningful to themselves.

140"
If I'm not mounting it, IM NOT SHOOTING IT!!! I shoot does to eat, and let the small bucks walk. I haven't shot a buck in about five years, and I don't care if its another five before I get to shoot one. I get a pleasure out of letting the little guys walk. I have a buddy that I would give an arm if I could get him to see things the same way. He shoots several small bucks a year, and its his right to do what he wants, but man there would be a lot of descent bucks running around if he had passed on all of them, and let them have another year or two.

The smallest of the 5 on the walls in my house is 126" gross. After killing a Booner last year, I am thinking around 140" minimum to shoot from now on. I love shoulder mounts, so I am of the school that is; Fill every inch of the wall that I can! LOL

I've mounted 3. I didn't know the score when I mounted them nor will I base it on score alone.

Because as others have said not everyone hunts where deer smaller than 130 are considered a basket rack. I personally have one mounted and it is a 132. But in my area that is not common. Most mature deer hit 120 with a few a large as 160 but on average 100-110 and no it is not a should have let them walk deal. It is a not enough high quality food deal.

We use mounting as a management tool, if you shoot a buck on our property you have to mount it, if you are meat hunting shoot doe's and let the bucks grow. We do make exceptions for bucks that need to be culled. That said I will mount any mature buck I kill no matter the score, a quality mount looks good no matter the score.
