Looking for some guidance for my west river South Dakota hunt this fall. I live in the black hills and plan on using my west river archery tag on a buck up here in the hills. I also drew a "rifle" tag that I plan on using my bow to fill for unit 2a (north of Wall). Looking for some guidance on where to start my hunt and some areas to check out. There seems to a be a lot of public land, but access would be tough as most of it is surrounded by private ground. Thanks all.

Good glass and good walking boots are your best bet. Tree lines and draws coming out of stream beds can be good places to sit if you are into that, but spot and stalk will probably be your best bet, at least until you find the deer you are looking for. Also, don't overlook watering holes.
