Speed bow vs smooth draw vs actual arrow speed

I have not chrono'd my bows in a long time, but I used to shoot a 60# 325 ibo bow, and have had two 50# 340 ibo bows. I'm sure the performance between the bows was a wash, but the 50# bows, despite having a "harsher" draw cycle, were easier to draw. So I think the faster ibo bows at lower poundage offer more bang for the draw comfort than the slower higher poundage bows. That said, there are other things to consider. The two faster bows have lower brace heights and more reflex in the riser. So supposedly they aren't as forgiving. But I've not really noticed a decline in accuracy with the higher ibo bows either. But then again I'm not shooting long ranges either very much.

That's interesting, you're the second person who preferred the speed bow draw cycle. Maybe because it's more "natural"? I mean when we pick up a rock or something the weight stays the same as we pick it up. The speed bows have a more consistent weight throughout the draw cycle.
I don't know that it is more natural, or a more linear draw. I think it's as simple as it's easier to draw 50#s over 60#s, regardless of the more aggressive cam. That's the bottom line. I have bad arthritis in my shoulders, especially the draw shoulder. So drawing a bow puts a lot of pressure into that socket in there. If I can get similar performance for less pain in the shoulder, that's a no brainer for me. For what it's worth, I have an Elite Enkore 50#s with performance mods (33" ata, 6" brace, 340 ibo bow) and I also have an Elite Synergy with 50# limbs (33" ata, 7.5" brace, 325 ibo). I don't feel either one is harsh to draw, and the slower bow doesn't seem to be easier to draw. Maybe if the Synergy was a 6" brace bow it would have similar speed???? It would be interesting to see the draw force curves for both.

Personally with bows so fast these day I think you are too focused on speed. I would shoot the bows and see which one I shot best, is more forgiving and more quiet if you hunt. You can change the arrow weight to get the speed you fell like you "need" and then pick the broad head to match the weight & speed of the arrow.

That's a better way to pick a hunting setup than to pick the bow for the speed only and try to make it work for you.
Bingo!
