Speed or FOC???

Hello all! Just getting some opinions on this. I am almost done dialing in my back up bow and wanted to see what y'all thought about this.

Would you rather have 7 more FPS OR 2% more FOC?

I have a ton of arrows all at the same length and weight. If I change my points/broadheads to 100 grains instead of 125, I get 7 more fps. But I lose 2% FOC

With my Draw Length and bow poundage, I'll blow through anything on 4 legs either way. Just getting some opinions

Thanks in advance!

DL-31.5"
DW-70#
TAW- 505 grains
286 FPS and 14.67% FOC w/ 125 grain heads
293 FPS and 12.47% FOC w/ 100 grain heads

Yep it's how they shoot or really IMHO how well you can tune. They should both shoot great. I base my decision on what I'm looking for. IOW depending on the BH you might find it less forgiving at higher speed so then I'd go heavier.....or drop DW. If the bow is shooting great faster then I'd take that to the bank if I wasn't overbowed or having flight issues.

You are in the world of overkill so little tweaks like 7 FPS or 2% FOC aren't going to show much in reality.

I was just curious and tried to start a conversation for opinions. I love tinkering with my gear and figured I’d come here and get some of y’all’s thoughts.

Honestly, I dang sure don’t shoot well enough to really tell a difference and if I spent half the time learning about animal behavior and habitat as I do farting around with my gear I’d probably be more successful in the field! 🤣🤣🤣

I just like to get others opinions and test things out. That’s all

I get this, good for you to be doing it. I'm a tinkerer as well.

I am not an FOC guy, I'm not a speed guy, I'm also not a TAW guy. I build arrows that tune and shoot the best. I'm fortunate that I can try several. I think If I were to check, my FOC would be between 9-13 for all my current builds. I know my TAW on all of fall between 465 and 502.

I shoot 75#, @29 DL.

To answer you directly, I would take the FPS

Coincidentally I was testing something similar to this with .5” longer DL today. I didn’t notice a difference 20-50yds in impact point. Nor was there a tangible difference in group size at my ability level, which ain’t much. Going to have to get somewhere past 50yds to begin seeing a difference, so to your answer….id pick the most accurate one for you if you get to a range where there’s a difference. If there’s not then I’d pick the faster one if you get to a range where there’s a noticeable difference trajectory. If that range is beyond your objective goals then hell I dunno I guess it doesn’t matter just flip a coin.

Just go shoot. You don't need paralysis by analysis in this sport/hobby. Get confident with it and go kill. Both options are miniscule differences. The deer won't know the difference.

Are we considering target shooting or hunting scenario? IMHO, for target shooting this may be a toss up. For hunting deer on up to larger bone creature I'll tend to favor more FOC over speed while selecting a highly robust BH with structural integrity as a primary criteria in the selection process.

I would say it makes no difference, however I was building a 3d arrow and was going light, so I used some 85 grain points, tune was fine but groups at distance were not great, went to 100 and little or no change, tried a 125 for the hell of it and that arrow shot better than any arrow I had built in a long time.

100 yard groups were just flat out great, as well as any other distance, so I say ya gotta shoot em! I like to group tune at 50 yds for testing.

Your specs are real close to mine. 31” DL, 70#. 510 grain at 286 fps from my AX2 32. My arrows are pretty much right at 15%. I would choose FOC every time when the velocity is that close. You may not even need a new sight tape inside 60 yards or so.
