I just put a new rest on my xlr. How heavy or light should the spring tension be? Should it just support the arrow or?

What kind of rest? A prong type TM rest?

If so, then the best starting point is to set it so that you can push the arrow down on the launcher all the way and when you let it go it just barely comes all the way back up without the arrow bouncing up and off the prongs. Fine adjust from there while tuning. Sometimes you end up soft enough that it won't quite support it at rest, but it does support it at full draw.

There you go then, I gave you the simplest setup instructions. That's a really good rest, too, so you shouldn't have any problem getting it set up properly.
