Sure seems like it works every time on the TV!
Let me tell, you, the deer I tried to get to stop today turned and ran for the hills!

Bummer too, he was a big bodied 9 pointer chasing a doe, watched them both
in the fog this morning for about 30 minutes before it got light enough to shoot.

The both came right across my ground blind at 30 yards but weren't stopping for anything.

Oh well, there is always next time!

:darkbeer:

I used the bahhh like sheep sound yesterday on a nice doe and it worked like a charm, she stopped dead in her tracks and got montec'd !:darkbeer:

The sound I use is the sound of my bow shooting. They usually stop after about 40 yards! Seriously, though, any noise you make to stop a deer also alerts the deer. The deer will listen intently for the very next sound, so you'd better have a quiet bow.

Ive always had the same frame of mind. I have never made a noise to stop a deer. If they are just walking slow and inside 25yrds I would rather just shoot em walking. Any further and I would probably try and stop em or just not shoot.

Good stuff

I've had em run off and I've had em stop. Hard to be sure but probably 3/4 of the time they stop - not necessarily where I want them to though.

i actually have never had to do this to a deer to get it to stop and i havent had to shoot any walking. i guess i have been lucky. but i do practice the meeep sound all the time when im at full draw. i want to be prepared when i have to use it.

always worked for me. Used it to shoot one last night. Refer to the "1900 yard blood trail" thread.

Kiss at em!!

I had a few bolt when I mrrred or bahhhhed so the wife says,,why don't you kiss at them like yer calling a dog...I laugh but just to show her how stupid that idea was, I tried it. ..............I been stopping deer for years now with that "stupid" kissing sound.
Give it a try.

I have yet to get a black tail to stop with any of the sounds i see on tv! I use an elk call, believe it or not.

You know im thinkin about just carrying a car horn with me lol.
The deer NEVER run when you honk the horn!!!

ya'll sure go through a lot of trouble to make sounds,,, for over 40 years ive done nothing other than a sharp short whistle not one ever failed to stop, not one ever ran, and many have stopped more than once, i did it yesterday, now i got nice plump spike chillin in the ice chest ... and it has worked on does, young deer, old mature and big bucks, and it has worked reguardless of weather wind or terrain, and about as far as a whistle can be heard,

whistle lasts about 1 second maybe

I've had them spook from an emulated grunt before so I quit.

I whistle, lip squeak, say "psssst"...all depends on my mood.
Last one I said "Whoa nelly" just loud enough for her to hear.
She obliged:smile:
