Does anyone use these and how are they as far as ease of use and safety etc.? How quickly can you set up? I've had some bad luck with screw in steps and don't want to go that route any more. Sticks are to hard to get in quietly and a climber is too bulky for where I need to hunt.

I'm 240lbs and use strap on steps. Love them. I bought them because screw ins are illeagl on Wisconsin state lands. They are faster to set up to. They don't need to be strapped super tight to the tree. The only drawback is they are bulkier to carry.

and more expensive. they are not the fastest to set up but you can set them up in the dark with zero noise. i dont like screw in either. i also think steps are much quieter than ladders as well as hang on stands. so to prevent theft i hang my stands and take my steps down after hunt. it is similar in time to a climbing stand so why not. climbing stands are my first choice

We also can't use screw in's. I have quite a few strap ons. Steps that is. You don't have to get them that tight on the tree. If you use a 4 point harness while your putting them on it's alot easier than trying to hold on to the tree and do it like I did last year. I space mine out from foot to just above the knee. I usually put the first one pretty high off the ground. I'm pretty tall and long legged and nobody else in my camp is and that will keep them out of my stands.

Lone Wolf Climbing sticks

I did the strap on step thing for the past several years. Got a great deal on some Lone Wolf Climbing sticks last season and used them for my last few hunts. Much better, quicker, quieter, etc. This year I've added a treesuit stand. So my plan is to use 4 LW sticks, then a ratchet strap with four or five of my old strap on steps to use for my footing. I think this will be safe, quick and versitile.

Good luck!

Yup, I love my Lone Wolf steps. Go up quick, easy to pack and lock on to the tree big time.

Not familiar with sticks so can't comment on how they compare. As stated, strap on steps are bulky and somewhat of a pain to put up. Putting in a bunch of screw in steps can definitely get a guy rather heated up. I like to split the difference. I put up three strap on steps while on the ground, use screw in steps to stand height, hang stand, and then put one more strap on step around base of stand and tree. Works for me. The only issue I have with this system is safety factor with the screw in steps. I'm always worried that one of those steps is going to let go some day.

To me I'm 3 times faster with the Cranford rope-on steps then any screw-in step. I also like the fact once I set my stand and find out I needed to shift the stand another 1/4 turn around the tree , I can just slide the steps around instead of rescrewing them all in. My only problem with them is I wish they were aluminum.
