String Serving Tutorial Needed

Is there anything online that could explain how to serve a portion of a bow string? I'm about to add a string stopper to my DXT and I need to do a serving on the part of the string that will hit the rubber on the stopper.

Can I do this on my own by reading and/or watching a video, or should I throw in the towel and take it to a shop?

You will need to get a spool of serving thread.

Tie off to one end of something solid on your bow.

Now,
just keep going around and around and around.

Now,
after you have about say 1-inch of serving....

Make a horseshoe shape

First leg of horseshoe

Hang onto the top of the horseshoe

now,
run the ball of thread (or serving tool)
in the same direction around and around and around,
but go UNDER the horseshoe...

Notice...,
when I was initially wrapping around and around and around...

the serving was GROWING LONGER to the left...

and

when I continued wrapping around and around and around,
UNDER THE HORSESHOE..

the serving is GROWING TO THE RIGHT...under the horseshoe..

notice,
the big ball of "thread" is off to the right, sitting on my workbench

I am still holding open the "horseshoe"...

now,
I WRAP the HORSESHOE
around and around and around the bowstring...

Notice how the HORSESHOE is getting smaller and smaller...

keep wrapping the horseshoe around and around and around..until...

you reach the end...

now,
just PULL the long string of thread
and the horseshoe will completely disappear.

Good post.
The only part that I would question is the first bit.
Running the first bit of serving under the full length can make for a thick finished serving.
So if this were a centre serving it could result in a tight nock fit.
But its fine for a string stopper serving.

Nuts, thanks a ton, bro.

Now at the end, I assume you just clip it off close, but then do you burn the ends with a lighter to seal it off, or just pull it really tight?

Yup.

I use a toothpick, and light the end.
Then,
make sure the stub is pointed straight up.

Lower the flame,
so you use the bottom of the flame (coolest part of the flame)
(also, if you use the bottom of flame and come down onto the stub)
(impossible to burn your expensive custom bowstring).

If you end up lighting the end of the stub, like a candle...
just let it get close,
and then smear the flame/end of stub with your fingers (pinch together)
and it will flatten nicely.
