Any big differences or brands etc? I noticed some types can be used as both.

I have the Barnett Ghost 410. Barnett recommended and included a small chap stick
style lube. They said to use it on both the cables, string and rail. I started using it on
both. It rubs in beautiful on the string and cables. A rail does not absorb it but relies
on the bow string serving to absorb it as the string passes over it when being cocked
or shot. At the present time I amusing Excalibur Rail Lube on the rail only. It is more
of a light oil. I put a few drops here and there along the rail, then spread it with my
finger. I lube every five shots as a crossbow is under far more stress than a compound.
I plan to use the Barnett Lube on my compound 2014 Elite 35 as it works in to the
string and cables much better than the stick type string wax. The stick type wax is much
harder. All the best.

Moon suggested something to me years ago. Its called Jig-A-Loo. Its spray on invisible dry lubricant that is made in Canada. I have owned Scorpyds, TenPoints, Excals and Parkers and I have not put wax or lube of any kind on the deck of any of them since using Jigalow. My strings show now wear at all except from the claws holding them. You may find out other wise but that's what I use. For hunting its perfect..no smell and nothing sticky to grab dirt etc from the field and woods. I take all the wax out of the serving I can get out and then keep the string and cables lubed with best synthetic wax I can find. TenPoints is a good choice. It goes into the string well. I use it on my vertical bow strings too. Others will have their own methods.
