Hello all, as you can see im new to the forum. Ive been hunting for awhile now but want to get into archery. I use to hunt with a cheap bow made in the 80's i bought at a pawn shop when i was younger. I was dead set on the Brute X until i seen its being replaced with the Surge in the 2014 line-up. Now im totally confused because they claim its better than the Brute. Both are obviously the same price. My question is, if you had to choose between the 2013 Brute X which is proven, or the new 2014 Surge which is supposed to be the same but better, which would you go with? Thank you very much in advance. As anyone knows, a mans head can spin off his shoulders when hes just starting out!

Don't overcomplicate it... Your head does not have to spin. Just go to a shop where you can shoot them. They will likely be a little different from one another and you may like the way one holds, draws or shoots better that the other. The weight of the bow itself might be different. I honestly do not think that you can make a bad choice here, just go with the one that you like better after you shoot them a bit. That is the best way to choose. The differences will not likely affect the reliability at all so that would not concern me. The manufacturers are always looking for ways to make things a bit different, especially if they think it will make someone want a new bow. Nothing wrong with that. Is it improved? Only you can tell that.

Bottom line, if you shoot both and like the Brute X, get one. If you like the Surge better, buy that. You might think that this is not helpful advice but it is an honest opinion from someone who has a bow and shot quite a few. Some just feel/shoot better than others for me and between some others there is not enough difference in the way I shoot them to make a difference.

Just enjoy testing them and then enjoy what you purchase. Don't let anyone else tell you that you should have bought something else, because it's your money to spend as you wish. What is good in their eyes might not work for you at all.
