For the benefit to the newer bowhunters this is the Texas heart shot.
In Texas, because of the lack of suitable trees in most areas, most shots are from ground level. If the shot is off an inch or two with a gun, because of the excess power it is easier to penetrate the pelvic area and do massive damage straight through the stomach, liver, lung and heart. Because of being on ground level everything lines up and there is plenty of power.
Out of a treestand say 15'-20' above a deer the organs do not line up. From a treestand with a bow, the organs do not line up and if one hits the pelvic bone the chances of making a quick clean kill are slim to none.
From the ground with a bow, if the deer is straight away and the arrow enters at the bottom of the tail between the legs, the arrow can go through the guts into the liver. With enough power and sharp broadhead it can even make it to the heart. Fred Bear did most of his hunting on the ground. Fred Bear also used Pods. If he hit the animal in the leg, it would die because of the poison in the Pod.
