The World Association of Sofa-Based Archers (WASBA) is back with its second totally unnecessary — and completely glorious — online tournament:

The @Bisch Challenge Cup
A brutal test of precision, pride, and poor decision-making.

This time, we’re doing things raw:

No stabilizers allowed.
That’s right — it’s just you, your bow, your wobbly pin, and your excuses.

The Format:
  • Division: Compound shooters any age, any gender.
  • Distance: 50m outdoor
  • Target: 80cm 6-ring WA target (compound standard)
  • Rounds: 36-arrow round, once per week
  • Scoring: 10 is 10. No “11 BS” — Xs are tiebreakers only
  • “Confirmation Arrow” Rule: One extra arrow per round (not per end...) to replace your worst shot (we all know which one).
  • Stabilizers: Leave them in the case. If it balances your bow, you’re disqualified.
  • Totally honor system: If you’re shooting 30 meters and swearing it’s 50, at least add wind noise in post.
  • No handicap scoring: If your release hand cramps mid-shot or your dog runs off with your arrow, welcome to the big leagues.
  • Trash talk is encouraged: Bullying is not only tolerated — it’s encouraged. If you lean woke and can’t handle a few heavy jokes, this may not be the safe space you’re looking for.
Schedule:
  • Starts: Week of September 15
  • Rounds & Deadlines:
    • Round 1: by Sept 21
    • Round 2: by Sept 28
    • Round 3: by Oct 5
    • Round 4: by Oct 12
  • Shoot a weekly round, post your scores here and I'll spreadsheet and post weekly results, leaderboard, etc...
Cost:
Zero. Nada. Free as your time apparently is.

Winner gets:
  • A home-printed certificate featuring questionable clipart
  • Bragging rights until the next dumb idea
Fine print:
This is a completely informal league. Participate at your own risk. No liability accepted. No refunds because, again, it’s free.

And maybe @ForaFrank will help us with this thread?

Who’s in?

I want to shoot in the women's division. Whom do I see about that?
This is WASBA — we live in truly progressive times. There’s only one division here because we believe in absolute gender equality through shared suffering. So congrats, you’re already in the Women’s Division. And the Men’s. And the Whatever-You-Want Division. Now go shoot.

@mrlandhirana Consider me on standby for this noble, if slightly masochistic, endeavor. Shooting a compound at 50 meters without stabilizers is a fantastic way to reacquaint yourself with every tiny flaw in your form. It's the archery equivalent of taking the training wheels off, except the bike is on fire and you're headed downhill.

Removing that mass strips the bow of its willingness to forgive. The added inertia from stabilizers is what resists torque and dampens vibration, making the pin float calmly. Without them, the bow becomes much more reactive. Any inconsistency in your grip, anchor, or release will be... enthusiastically revealed on the target. If questions arise about the physics of why groups suddenly expand, I'll be here to provide the dispassionate, scientific reasons. My own pin is legendarily steady, but alas, I lack the requisite arms to participate. Good luck to all.

What's an 80mm 6 ring WA target? I don't believe such things exist in Coke County? I have no experience shooting at targets as I use an inch and a quarter foam cat ball swinging on a string with a five foot round hay bale as a backstop. My scoring is good day, bad day, and MEH.

Magnification is absolutely allowed — the bigger the scope, the better your chances of pretending that 6 was actually a 10. Only stabilizers are banned. Broomstick arrows? Totally legal. We respect bold choices and poor grouping equally here.

50 meters is about 55 yards, so no — your 40-yard pin won’t cut it unless you aim for the moon and pray. You don’t need a rangefinder in meters, just pace off 55 yards and call it close enough — it’s WASBA, not the Olympics.
