So the THP went down to TX and meet up with the Ranch Fairy. Several video's are out Jake and Aaron do some Hog hunting. A video on sharpening broadheads. They tagged Stay Sharp in the description, and they showed how easy it is.

I think it is great exposer that bowhunters are sharpening their broadheads. It gives Stay Sharp exposer as well. It must be great because he's sold out and the items are on backorder. I'm lucky I've had mine for a couple of years.

Anyway go to YouTube and check out The Hunting Public.

I watched one of the videos, will watch the others as well. I appreciate it. I've met Troy and think he's a swell guy. Definitely seemed sincere and willing to engage and share. A friend of mine who is new to archery met Troy the week before I did and Troy gave him a pack of broadheads. I thought that was a great gesture towards a new archer/bowhunter. I like the guys from THP as well, never met them, but I think it's great they were down here hunting with Troy.

I havent been on here long enough to know the guy that owns Stay Sharp....and at this point dont care. I will say this....

I bought a Stay Sharp guide awhile back and hadnt really used it much until this weekend. This past weekend I used my Stay Sharp to sharpen my Magnus Black Hornets. All I can say is Wow! I used 400 and 800 grit sandpaper then used my leather strop with buffing compound and I've never had a blade that sharp. Scary-sharp and a finely polished edge.

I also watched the sharpening video. not only were the techniques great, it drives home the point that sharpness is critical.

It's just a great reminder that we need to always have this on our pre-hunt inspection checklist.

The RF presents an extreme philosophy, but we can totally extrapolate and tailor our arrows to a lesser degree (mass/FOC) and find a compromise. I hunt out West, so a super heavy arrow has it's limitations, but I sure did bump my arrows up within reason.

LOL yea me too! I've shot them twizzlers and wing dingers..... Passthroughs from 385-410 with fixed blade Muzzy's.

However I've moved up to 535 last year just for fun. I really don't think it will matter to me. I haven't ever had an issue. Frontal shots, shoulders, spine on whitetail and hogs.

Good luck.

There's such a wide spectrum when it comes to arrow lethality. On one end you have the whole indian bow with a flint head killing every game animal in North America. On the other end it's people shooting Grizzly Stiks taking out elephants. Then somewhere in the middle are the Drury's with 350gr arrows with super wide mechs consistently getting 6-10" of penetration. All of them can kill deer so find what works for you and go hunt.

I really really like THP I watch every episode they put out and will continue to do so, ranch fairy on the other hand while I don’t have anything against the guy at all I just have a hard time watching him, I get the physics behind what he’s doing and I know it works ( still can’t convince me you need a 600 gr arrow though) but I watched last nights episode and I sure saw a lot of arrow hanging out of most of those pigs........

Think I get Troys intent and generally his antics turn a lot of us off. If he continues to handle himself like he did while doing the sharpening segment w THP guys I feel he will attract more good folks that will actually stay with the video from start to finish. As a rule Troys antics tend to push a lot of us away, sorry this is true. All I can say for the way he handled himself with the Hunting public sharpening episode is keep up the good work Troy.

The way he has frequently slamd the loud mouths with their ears plugged, that belittle Him on AT does not help his cause. A better example of great promotion offered by a previous Hoyt spokesman went along the lines of avoid the negative trash talk and just promote the positives of your cause. Focus on the positives of your cause. Focus on the positives of your cause. Congratulations Guys, keep it up great videos!

Wish you all well!

I watched them and enjoyed them. I always like watching THP, they are super relatable guys and put a ton of work into both their hunting and the video product. I agree that with slightly less antics than usual RF was just as entertaining and an awesome teacher. I have been playing with free hand sharpening my broadheads and tried his sandpaper method yesterday with some nice results.

Rancid Crabtree was his username. Holier than thou type person and then got busted poaching over bait. Like so many of that type.

Stay sharp is a great plastic printed knock off of another brand. I probably would’ve bought it if rancid wasn’t behind it. Instead I payed 3x more for the quality metal one he knocked off that will probably last the rest of my life.

You can see lot of folks reply with a frothy hate for RF just because he likes heavy arrows.....the bias is painfully obvious on this thread.........lol. I don't agree you "need" to shoot arrows that heavy BUT you can't deny the fact it does offer better penetration IF that's the goal.

It's like Trump derangement syndrome.........for archery.

100%

It’s the same as - prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

Everyone loves a perfect broadside shot at 25 yards. But what about the 30 yard hard quartering to on a hunt of a lifetime?

As an engineer I love the RF. It’s basic physics - heavier arrows are harder to stop - momentum. A stiff arrow will also penetrate better than a softer arrow. Try jamming a pencil through a hard medium and then try jamming a straw through. Same thing.

Not everyone needs to shoot 600 arrows to shoot whitetail. But listen to his message - higher FOC , higher arrow weight and arrow integrity have their advantages to penetrate.
