kevlar is not designed for arrows...the lead bullet mushrooms on impact creating a larger diameter...the energy is dispersed over a larger area as compared to an arrow.

it doesnt matter how much the bow cost. if its set at 60 lbs then thats more than enough energy to injure or kill someone.

Do you honestly believe that a kevlar vest that would stop a bullet wouldn't stop an arrow? Besides, the bow looked like a $20 kids bow.

Actually yes you can stab through a bullet proof vest with ease I bet an arrow would penetrate no prob and that was no way a 60 lb bow

******s.....could have ended much worse!
My guess would be the arrow was tipped with a blunt or similar tip.
Most kevlar body armor will not stop an arrow tipped w/ a BH or even a field point. For that matter, they wont stop anything w/ a pronounced point like knives, shanks, etc... w/o some sort of plate designed to stop that type of weapon.
As for stopping bullets, they are bullet "resistant" not bullet "proof." A lot of it depends on the speed, type and shape of bullet.

Must have been a Mathews bow, that's why it didn't penetrate.:)

KIDDING!!!!

Kinda.

They had to be shooting blunts or something. An arrow launched at 60# with a field point would smoke right through a Kevlar vest, especially if it was a small diameter arrow.

You can't fix STUPID. I agree that it doesn't appear to be a 60# bow but still stupid...Someone needs to make sure his momma is fixed cause we don't need anymore of him running around...

I completely concur, I have a police officer friend. He told me the same thing, made to stop a blunt object, like a mushroomed bullitt. When an pointed slow object like an arrow is at play. TOTALLY different story. Infact a Kevlar vest won't stop a knife. Which I would say in has less KE with you swinging itm than an arrow. SOmebody want to try? Let me know the results.

I do. Kevlar was made for more of a blunt object like bullets not sharp points. I was a buyer (Contract Specialist) for the Air Force for 10 yrs. I have seen it done with knives. That's why we starting going to ceramic plates.

What a bunch of dumbasses. There are a gazillion ways that could have gone WAY wrong.

A guy I knew in college ('80s) and some of his friends from home were making a "movie". They had this guy's girlfriend sitting in a chair and they were gonna FAKE a Russian roullette deal with a pistol. I guess nobody thought to check and make sure the gun was unloaded. Their video camera was filming when the gun went off point blank aimed at the poor girl's head.

Crap like that isn't funny. Just STUPID.

That bow was at best maybe a #30lb recurve.
If those idiots used a modern compound at #60 the gene pool would have been cleansed of 1 more idiot...even with a field point. Broadhead? even the toy recurve might have got him.
