Purchased a wingman in the off season. I've used it a few times so far this year. Love the concept. Couple issues I have with it. Pulling 30 feet or even 20 feet of strap through the loop is a PIA. I've tried folding the excess in a way to fit it all at once through but not really working. The other is having to adjust the amount of strap to go around the tree when your up there leaving you unhooked till you get it adjusted. As far as the excess strap when your set up I roll it up and set it on the stand where it meets the tree. I'm going to devise a clothespin thing to hold it

Anybody have a better way to hook these things up?

Billy,
I use my Q-Safe to climb to height, the use the wingman once set. Unsnap from Q-Safe and clip into wingman. I use one of those rubber coated gear ties to tie the excess off in a bundle to my climber platform towards the base of tree.
The wingman can be a little difficult and slower to adjust to tree width by the way you have to adjust pushing it through but it’s worth it for the safety. A tad heavy too, but again, worth it in safety features.
I bet you’ll find something that works for you second-nature in no time.

I always attach the Wingman to my HSS rope around the tree and my tether from my harness to the Wingman. I use a rock climbing harness. This year I bought a Q-Safe but I don’t think that changes anything. I also cut my strap a bit as I never go over 20’ and just let the strap hang.

So you just pull the wingman loop all the way up to the wing man itself and use a carabiner to attach to the HSS rope and then attach wingman to harness. Got it, I'm going to do this. Thanks!

I use a heavy strap and buckle to wrap the tree. Before you do put the strap through the top loop of the Wingman, then wrap the tree. As you climb loosen the strap and slide it up the ,then retighten. This way you never have to feed the strap through. Reverse the process when u descend. Been using mine for five years.
