Trophy Ridge offered a promotion where they would provide an individual with a broadhead of his/her choice in exchange for a review posted here on AT. They requested that we compared their head against our favorite head. My favorite head is the G5 Striker, so let the review begin:thumb:

This may take me all day though, so feel free to chime in/ask a question whenever:archery:

The broadhead I chose to receive was 100 grain Ultimate Steel.\

The broadhead arrived rather promptly...7 days after placing the order.
It arrived USPS and as you can tell, they probably should've put a little more thought into the packaging. I'm concerned about the rattle ride this head had...I have no way to assess out of the package sharpness, except out of this package and I'm sure this is not how they sell them. Even a piece of tape would have done the trick.

Here is a closer view of the fully assembled head with the insert removed

Here is the disassembled view...the tip is not removable.

Weights

I weighed each component separately.

Ferrule 78 grains

Blades (all blades were 6 grains...if somebody wants an extremely accurate weight, then I can do that too:nod:), but for all intents and purposes the blades weights were not different.

Locking collar 6 grains

All components together 102 grains

The tips of the "Bacon Skinner" blades are locked in behind the chisel tip.

This is a better design IMO than heads like the ABC Sonic, which exposes the tips of the blades to abuse and is definitely a weak point in that head (Sonic).
Here is a picture of what happens when the blade tips are not "protected."

Blade Thickness

I couldn't find any info on the advertised blade thickness, but I'm guessing they advertise 0.030" thickness.
Here is my measurement ~0.032" at the thickest part of the blade...the blades taper down to 0.02" near the tip that locks behind the chisel point.

More measurements

The overall length of the head (from tip to insert) is 0.834" and the advertised cutting diameter is 1"

The Contenders

Now at the request of Trophy Ridge...I'm going to compare it to my favorite head--->The G5 Striker.
I haven't completed all the comparisons, so I'll head out and do that after a few more stats.

The G5 Striker blade thickness was 0.031"

The tip to insert length of the Striker is 1.1"

Cutting diameters
Trophy Ridge advertises 1"
G5 Striker advertises 1 1/8"

I'll have to punch some paper to put the calipers on that...plan to do a flight test, cutting diameter test and penetration test. I'll use the same 2 heads for all.

More later.

Dang Doc! I'd say that got more than they bargained for from ya! I couldn't ever load the video to watch to get to the app for the head so I went without this round. Looking forward to the review!

I'm trying out the Sidewinder. I'll not go into as much detail as Doc but I'll post pictures of kill & entrance/exit wounds. A buddy of mine (Mark) who is with Ashley outfitters loves them so I think I'll be pleased.

Yep I got my 3bld. meatseeker today...but my testing wont come til October 3rd. I was amazed as I wasnt expecting it for about another week+....way to go Trophy Ridge on yet another great giveaway.:darkbeer:

Great start on the comparison. I got mine today (2 blade meatseeker) and all I did was put it on and go shoot. I must say that I was inpressed with how well it flew and the hole it put in the bh target. I will get to do more of the research that was requested tomorrow, however, it won'e be as thorough as yours. Thanks for the techinical input though! I am sure TR appreciates it as well.

how did you get it to open???? mine wont open for anything. maybe i got a bad one. cause im not getting holes bigger than the head closed on entrance and exit. i wasent impressed with mine. hope the steel head xl is better

Waiting on my 145gr Razorhead to arrive. I guess im gonna have to compare it to my 125gr Magnus Snuffers, or the 125gr Crimson Talons. Im wondering if that extra 20gr's is gonna make a huge difference. Probably not huge, but if they fly better than what im shooting, im gonna have to pick up a set!

Got my meatseeker 2 blade today in the mail, put it on my arrow to try it against the 2 bladed rage. The arrow will be on the string when I get into the tree tomorrow. It looks good spines good and weights in at 102 grains now just to have a deer walk in front of me

I just got back inside from shooting the 100 grain Ultimate Steel and 100 grain G5 Striker. I did flight, durability and penetration comparisons.

The test rig was a Quest QS33 equipped with an Expert II drop away rest and XR2 sight. I used a Carter Target 3 release and Carbon Express Maxima Hunters with an arrow wrap.
The target was a Rinehart 18-in-1.

The flight test was done last so I could have "fresh" heads for the durability/penetration test, but I'm going to present the results first.

Flight Test:
All shots for the flight test were taken at 30 yards.
The field point was shot first.

The G5 Striker was shot 2nd and the Trophy Ridge Ultimate steel shot 3rd.
All 3 points (field point, Striker and Ultimate Steel) were within a 3/4" group measured from center. I'll take a 3/4" group at 30 yards with all field points, let alone 2 different broadheads and a field point, so I can only say both heads exhibited field point-like flight.
