Looking to try out a thumb release and want to get a reasonable one before investing $300 in the better models. What is the difference of these two releases and which is better and why. I have shorter fingers than the average person, not super short but shorter. Thanks for explaining the differences and which is better and your real-world experience.

I’ve owned both. The Rave is light years better. The max pro had a ton of travel and creep.
Another option is to find yourself a used Truball Blade, which is a step up from the Rave.
Lots of different brands and styles out there, but a medium Blade fits my hand like a glove.
The classifieds on AT are your friend when trying to find out which release fits your mitt the best. Save yourself some $ so you don’t get hit with a loss if the release isn’t what you were expecting…

I’ve owned both and I think the Rave is a much better release. Plenty of them come up for sale at very reasonable prices (50% or less off retail).

The main difference is the Max Pro is a dual caliper and the Rave operates with a sear. The Max Pro doesn’t have much adjustability and has some trigger travel due to it being a caliper style. The Rave has a much crisper trigger and the travel can be adjusted.
