Okay guys. I have searched through the forum for reviews on Under Armour products, more precisely their outerwear products, and haven't found any solid reviews. Before the hunting season started I asked about the Ayton fleece camo and didn't get much of response which is fine as it was a fairly new product. Well I'm still curious as to who has tried it and what their thoughts are. I also noticed that a lot of other people out there are curious as well and not just about the Ayton. Everyone wants to know about all the Under Armour gear. So here it is! A thread specifically for reviewing Under Armour gear! I mean come on, if people are thinking about getting the gear then they are gonna want to know if it works or not before shelling out hundereds of $$$'s. So PLEASE everyone post your honest reviews about your Under Armour gear. As the OP I'll go first and thanks to everyone in advance for contributing to the thread.

Well as I said, I was curious about the Under Armour Ayton fleece and not getting much of a response from AT, I decided I'd take the plunge and buy it to see how it performs. Now I was looking for a windproof, or at least wind resistant, and waterproof outerlayer. Something that wasn't too heavy for the early season but would work great as an outerlayer into the late seaon. Well after reading the descriptions on the UA website and not wanting to spend a ton of money, I settled on the Ayton. I purchased both the pants and jacket from cabelas for about $130 a piece.

Now before I get into it let me mention that im about 6' 3" and weigh in around 250 lbs. Yes I could stand to loose a few pounds but I just wanna give everyone an idea of my size. I got an XXL Jacket and XL Pants in the realtree pattern. Also keep in mind I live in Minnesota.

The good

Fit was perfect! I had tried on the scent lok all season gear and did not like that at all. Mid section was way too bulky and jacket was also too short. Very uncomfortable. But the fit of the Under Armour was perfect! Great length and not too bulky but left room for layers. I liked this. It was also very comfortable. I can't think of a time when it wasn't. It was not constricting in anyway as I walked to my stand and climbed up the tree, and I was using tree spikes that were often a good stretch to reach. The material was also very quiet. Overall I was very pleased with the fit and comfort. I give it a 10!

Now UA claims that the Ayton is wind and water resistant from what I can tell. Well sorta true. The Ayton is water resistant. It will repel light rain just fine, but if your out long enough for the jacket to get soaked or if your in a heavy rain, you will get wet. It's not water proof but it did what it said it would. As a first test iI took it to the sink and used the spayer. When the sprayer was on heavy, the water went right through in a matter of a few seconds. But when the sprayer was on and acted like a gentle shower, it took a while for water to soak in but it eventually happened. Out in the field it kept me dry and that was in light rain and drizzle. Never got out when it rained hard.

The bad

Now this IMO is not wind proof or even wind resistant. The Ayton worked extremely well in temps ranging from I'd say 35-50 degrees. 45-50 degrees I could wear it alone without layers. When temps dipped down into the lower 40's and mid 30's I would layer up with cold gear base layer compression fit leggings and top and maybe add a UA hoodie. This worked well until the weather dipped into the lowers 30's and 20's and had a brisk wind. Then I was cold. Ayton did not even begin to keep the wind at bay. I do also realize that the base layers aren't very good when sitting in a treestand. They work really well when moving but sitting still they just don't cut it in colder temps.

Washing

Washed Ayton gear as well as other camo gear about 3 times throughout the season in scent away detergent. Camo did not fade but the brown material on the pants, waist, pockets, behind the knee area and cuffs, did fade. Nothing major though.

Overall

So overall I am pleased with the Ayton gear as it works well for the majority of the whitetail hunting season. Only downfall for me was that it's not as wind resistant as I'd hoped for. May work better in colder temps with heavier base layer such as UA 3.0 or some merino wool. Adding a windproof midlayer would do wonders as well in colder temps.

Other gear tried

Arctic Beanie - Awesome! Worked great. Love it!

Liner Gloves in realtree pattern - Nice tight fit to cover hands but obviously won't work well in cold temps.

Cold Gear Hood - Awesome! Works great!

And a pic just for the heck of it with me in my UA Gear.

Sorry for the long post but I hope you enjoyed the review.

I just bought the UA long sleeve fleece 1/4 zip jacket and I love it too! It has a small zip pocket at an angle just below the neck, but it works. This jacket is nicely warm, but not very wind or water proof. I love the fit of all the UA gear I purchased! There is no bagginess - it just fits right - perfect for bowhunting.

I also bought the base layer mock neck t-shirt and leggins and am happy with them so far too.

UA designs and makes their clothing right. The fit, the fabrics, and the sizing is impeccable.

They seem to have price controlling as it is nearly impossible to find their products discounted.

I'm going to look into getting some UA stock.

You may want to look into it now and upcoming month's. I own some UA stock and usually you will see it rise around Sep. Oct. when High School football and hunting season starts. It may also start to rise with all the TW & Nike connections. I know it sounds like a far reach but it doesn't take much sometimes, especially if allot of women start buying UA instead of Nike. Crazy things have happened.

By the way, great review on the UA camo. I have some of the BASE 3.0 stuff and man it is nice. Great base layer as it wicks any sweat away from the skin. I think just the extremely soft feel of the material against the skin makes you warmer.

My friends say I am a walking UA sign. I have lots of the stuff and really like it. Here is my review on all my stuff, its might be a little long:

Cold Gear Mock T and Leggings:
When I first got them they had a different fit than my previous thermals, not bad just different. They were snug but not overly tight. After a few trips with them I loved them, the fit grew on me and I really found myself staying warm. Most of my hunting ins in the south eastern US so it doesn't get below zero that often and most of my deer hunting is run and gun with shotguns and dogs. For that they work great. If you start to sweat they wick moisture really well and keep me dry. If you want to climb a tree and sit all day they are also good for that. Living in colder climates might have you searching for slightly warmer thermals or just add a few more layers and your good to go. Price was $50 a piece.

Ayton II Jacket:
I really love this jacket, its warm and really comfortable. It works great by itself in October and early November when the weather is just starting to turn cold. You can also pair it with a 1/4 zip or similar layer underneath for colder temps. I was a little hesitant to do a review on this b/c I had limited outdoor exposure with it but after the past few weeks I have been able to put it through its paces. This jacket is great b/c its warm without the extra bulk that gets in the way. The size was really good, some people might want to get one size bigger if they add extra layers underneath so it doesn't get to tight b/c the fit is a little more athletic than a lot of jackets. I have washed it a few times and the color has yet to fade which is a good thing. I did have it in a light rain the other week and I stayed warm and dry, but heavy/steady rain might be more of a challenge for it. If I get into a heavy/steady rain I will update the review accordingly. As far as windproof. Mine seems to cut down on the wind rather well. I go to school in Boone, NC and it can get pretty windy this time of year. The last couple days of school we had a high of 30 with 30-40 mph winds and I stayed warm walking to and from class and never once felt any wind inside the jacket. Price was $130.

Hurlock 1/4 Zip Fleece:
This is my go to pull over. I wear it all the time, in class or the car. It really warm for its light weight. I like to wear it as a middle layer with my Ayton jacket and stay super warm. Today when I was hunting it was in the mid to upper 40's I had this and my thermals on and stayed nice and warm. It holds it color and size really well after being washed several times. It does lack in being water or wind proof but for its design and purpose that ok for me. This is mostly just my travel jacket and middle layer or my outer layer when the weather is nice. Price was $99.

I also have the hurlock gloves ($35), camo hat ($22), cold gear hood ($31), cold gear beanie ($22), and boxers ($20). All are well made and comfortable and perform great for me when hunting.

There are a lot of people that say you can get similar stuff at a lesser price. My experience has told me that its worth the extra money to get the real deal. The imitations just aren't cut right and feel different in a bad way. They also lack to quality of UA, they feel cheap to me. Yes UA is expensive but its worth the money. You really do get what you pay for.

How is this stuff in thorns and pickers, most of my camo gets tore up after a season, is this stuff pretty tear resistant?

My experience has been with the Ayton that it picks up burs very easily but does hold up well when taking them off. The camo also held up well when rubbing against tree bark while climbing to the stand. Can't comment about thorns as I didn't come in contact with too many of them and when I did notice them I tried being very careful. Did hold up against what I did encounter. If your in an area and encounter thorns often then you might wanna get a few more opinions.

Well thanks to everyone so far for the replys. And to those who have questions keep asking.

Anyone out there use the Cumberland jacket or pants? How about the Derecho?

I bought a set of the 3.0 base layers and love them, if you get sweated up moving around it wicks much better than the compression fit cold gear that I also have. for our first season shotgun season with temps in the 20's I wore my 3.0 base with an UA hoody under my Ayton pants and jacket and was comfortable. We do a combination of drives and stand hunting during gun season and I was comfortable doing both. The UA clothing wicks and dries so quickly that if you get sweated up during a drive you won't be wet if you are on post on the next run. As far as bur and thorn proof, I was pretty pleased. While the Ayton fleece will pick up Cockle Burrs and Stickers they brush off very easily. Some of the properties where we conduct drives are full of Cockle burr and those small black burrs that ruin alot of hunting clothes. I was able to hunt these timbers without much problem. In the past I would switch to my Carharts for these timbers. The only real complaint I have is the Ayton fleece is not as windproof as I would like. I also used the Ayton for some November bowhunts and the cut of the clothes is perfect for bowhunting, bowstring clearance is ample and the fabric is extremely quiet. Once I figured out it isn't overly windproof and started wearing my windstopper pullover under the jacket I was almost too warm on stand.

I had purchased the ayton pants and jacket also along with the Cold Gear thermals. Probably the best purchase i have ever made. I grew up wearing the cotton walmart thermals. Man have i been missing out. The Cold Gear is very comfortable but didn't seem real warm. I just put an extra layer on. As far as the Ayton Pants and Jacket I would purchase them again. They aren't very wind proof and not waterproof but extremely comfortable and not bulky. I wouldn't wear this stuff through a briar patch by anymeans. Protect your investment. Overall I would give it 4 stars.
