I want to start saddle hunting but have no idea what i need to look for in a saddle and which brands are the best. I have have no price range but just want something comfortable, and reliable.

I have used sit drag, RCH+ DIY fleece saddle, Tethrd Mantis, AH Flex, and JX3 Outdoors JX3 hybrid saddle gen 1 and 2. I am currently back to using Summit Titan Climber after 5 seasons strictly saddle hunting. I highly recommend RCH+Fleece. Its more comfortable than the soft sided saddles I have tried, $40 for rch + $25 for fleece and amsteel. Saddlehunter.com will and should be your primary source for saddle info.

It’s a real rabbit hole if you’re not careful. Cruzr XC is regarded as one of the more comfortable saddles. But it’s subjective to the user. Adding a backband will also increase the comfort of a saddle. People will say a two panel saddle is more comfortable but there is more fiddle factor. I got a Latitude Classic 2 for Black Friday and I like the simplicity of the single panel with the rope belt. You could check out the Method 2 that is a two panel saddle. Latitude also has platforms now and will be releasing carbon fiber sticks.

The best? Ask 100 people and get 100 answers...

cruzr xc is really popular....its made well no doubt, but I did not find it comfortable, you might love it though

I sold mine though and gave up saddle hunting. Saddle gear seems very specific to the user and their preferences or what they can tolerate.

I researched this to death and tried out 4 different saddles. I concluded that the Cruzr XC is the best. If you look at saddle comparisons on line/youtube; the Cruzr is #1, #2 or #3 in every comparison.

This being said, everyone is built different, and have different styles of saddle hunting, so you may prefer another brand.

It really comes down to what fits you the best. I have tried a few different ones and the method 2 from latitude outdoors is the best for me.

i have a cruzr xc.....it is a nice saddle and is comfortable....however, the waist and leg buckles are most likely chinese knockoffs and i do not trust them....i replaced the waist belt with an actual rated Cobra buckle but in so doing had to add rated triglides from suncor

this saddle is an larger, pleated one piece, like the cruzr xc, but is much better made....the standard waist buckle is a Cobra (probably best rated buckles made) and you can get optional Cobra leg buckles (which I did)

the cruzr xc is now my backup (wear it when it is going to get soaking wet and don't wanna wait for my primary to dry out)

the deluxe wood hunting saddle is made by a well known member of the saddle hunting community that is not me but i happen to know from online...it is better than the cruzr xc in materials and construction....the webbing it uses is both thicker and wider which makes it stronger and less likely to give hot spots, the bridge design is better, and the stitches are perfect except the stitches to keep the loops folded (non weight bearing) might not be perfectly straight lines because so much material is being sewn through at one time (cruzr also suffers from this as do most saddles....just very hard to sew through 4 to 6 layers of webbing)

these are similar to the buckles on the cruzr

these are what is on the Woods saddle

PS...the best made saddles are not the big names you hear about...tethrd isn't in top 5 or maybe 10

some of the best made are Woods Hunting, TX5, Overwatch, and Custom Gear Modifications.....they are all handmade in small batches in the USA by people that sew and are also saddlehunters

I just got into saddles last summer/fall. Had NO idea which one I wanted. The best advice I can give is to go to an outdoors show, one of the Saddle Hunter Forum meetups, or find a friend who has it all to try different saddles. It's a very personal thing, and what works for one person/body type may be horribly uncomfortable for the next person.

For me, I found the TX5 Lonestar to be the best fit for me. I think the HPR stays (hip pinch reduction) really helped keep the saddle from compressing/pinching. I also liked being able to pick out exactly how I wanted it done with different materials, colors, fit, etc.
