Here's my question guys.....

I have $200 to use on a treestand and climbing sticks.

As of right now I'm thinking Lone Wolf Climbing sticks and some kind of Gorilla Loc-On.

Some of my considerations: I'm a solid 260 lbs. and I like a bigger platform for obvious reasons. If you were in my boots what would you get?

Nothing Wrong with that combo. as long as you buy the kong series(steel) gorrilla. I have had lots of noise probs, form the 2 silverback series(aluminum) gorrillas. The lone wolf sticks are great.

Thats why I was looking at the Gorillas....I forgot to add that another MAJOR consideration is weight of the stand since I hike back in about 2 miles for all day sits. This means stand, sticks, and enough gear to sit all day. I won't exactly be packing light. From what I've seen...the gorillas are about as light as I can get for under $100.

I agree with the Gorilla choice, I have the King Kong Lounger( I weigh 265). It is great! As far as climbing sticks I can't tell you what the brand of mine is for sure. It is 16' tall and breaks down into 4 pieces. Each piece has a strap that goes around the tree. Four pieces of advice in a fixed stand:

1. Lock it up! Use 3/8" proof coil chain and a Master Combination Lock. It takes BIG bolt cutters to cut either of these. Plus you don't have to worry about keeping track of the key. :)

2. Either plan on having help hanging it, or do what I did. Buy a small pulley and hang the pullet above where you want the stand first. Then pull the stand up with a rope and tie it off. Then when you get up the climbing stick to attach your stand, all you have to do is manuever it into postion. They get real heavy real fast holding onto them with one hand while trying to attach the strap.

3. Secure yourself to the tree with a strap at the top of the climbing stick before attaching the stand. It gives you both hands to work with and it prevents serious injury.

4. ALWAYS WEAR A FULL BODY HARNESS.

What northforker said

also I will probably get a raft of flack for this but I bought a hang on stand from WALMART. It looks exactly like a Gorrila and has a very large platform. It cost under $40. I used it all this year and had no problems. I weigh 240. I did however add an extra ratchet strap (purchased at  WALMART)to the bottom to secure it to the tree better.

Lone Wolf climbing stick caution

Lone Wolf is a great product but I wanna point out one thing that you need to be aware of. During setup, make absolutely sure that the strap loop goes all the way around the versa button, and double check it after you cinch the strap.

Last fall I set up in the dark of morning and when I climbed down after hunting I found the strap loop only half way around the button. Half was in back, half in front. The same thing happened another time since that but I watch for it now before I put any weight on the sticks. Coulda been disastrous had it let go since I don't hook up my tether until I'm about to climb into the stand.

these tree stands are a bit more then 200 but i tell u this is one of the best treestands i have ever seen, quick easy and quiet, when u email them they send u a free video, they have a demonstration that blows my mind, they hang one of there stands, take a small crane and lift up 5 - 50lb bags of something lift it like 3 ft above the plateform and droped them on it all at once, the stand barley budged, thats a stand that gives me confidence.

I really like the King Kong stand. I don't know about your neck of the woods but here Wal-Mart carries them and they went on sale last week for $40. The Hunter View stand at Wal-Mart has the same specs as the King Kong but is a little cheaper. I also like the the Lone Wolf climbing stick.

Check this out and see if you can help me out.

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/prod...007&type=21&dept=4125&path=0:4125:4155:104007

the picture has the seat with the backrest but the description doesn't clearly say that that particular seat comes with it. Also it says "King Kong CHAIN ON Treestand" but the description say "STRAP".....trying to figure out what exactly I would be getting. It seems like a heck of a price if you get the deluxe seat and the strap instead of the chain.

I bought 5 of those last week. that makes 8 total between myself, my brother, and my dad. It comes with the seat in the picture.(Very comfortable). The straps that it is referring to are backpack straps for carrying the stand into the woods. It has the chain for locking it onto the tree and i put an additional rachet strap on mine to be sure it doesn't shift. Theses are the best loc-on stands I have found regardless of the price. It also comes with a full body harness.
